Just smelling this brew is an adventure all itself. And then... A rich aroma of vanilla, mocha, fudge, bourbon, smoked wood, charred oak, burned coffee beans. The use of whiskey barrels pays off fantastically. This would be a perfect beer to supplement a large meal, I should try that one day. Overall, this is quite a spectacular Imperial Stout, the first Emelisse I’ve drank and made me aware of the brewery. More will follow.

0.33 l bottle, best before March 2015, courtesy of bierkoning, massive thanks again for this gem! Black with a thin, frothy, stable, light brown head. Intensely sweetish, malty, slightly roasty and a little fruity aroma of lots of vanilla from the bourbon, accompanied by dark chocolate, mocca, dark ripe fruits and a touch of oak. Very sweet, malty, moderately roasty and a little fruity taste of dark chocolate, mocca, massive bourbon/vanilla, licorice, some hazelnut, a bit of oak and hints of dark ripe fruits, followed by a long, rather roasty-bitter, earthy, warming-alcoholic finish. Full body, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pretty intense, especially in the finish, nevertheless extremely well-balanced as the bourbon matches the flavours of the base beer perfectly. What a beer, absolutely awesome!

Best Before 12-2015. Another brilliant white label. Plenty of wood, loads of bourbon but the great stout underneath still is present. Yum.

Bottle shared at Daniels place. 20/02/2016. Huge thanks to Daniel for this one. Dark black / brown coloured pour with a lasting mid tan head. Aroma is big Bourbon whiskey, oak, vanilla, woody, coconut. Flavour is lovely rounded smooth coffee, big toasted coconut, woody, oak, Bourbon, burnt sugar in the finish. Palate is smooth and velvety, moderately creamy, moderate carbonation . Little woody tannin. Really nice Bourbon character.

Bottle thanks to Dan at Richmondo. It pours darkest brown with a small beige head. The nose is darkest brown with a small beige head. The nose is rich, oily, bitter - sweet, vanilla, coconut, toffee, fudge, creamy coffee, wood, earth and sweet juicy bourbon. The taste is rich, charred wood, bitter - sweet, spicy bourbon, alcohol warmth, chewy malt, vanilla, burnt toffee, dark fruits and some spice with a warming finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Aroma is spectacular, but the taste is touch hot. Pretty great though.

Bottle shared in Richmond - many thanks to Daniel. Pours deep black-brown with a minimalist tan head. The nose has some torched wood, alcohol, dry cocoa, peat, smoke. Medium sweet flavor with rich chocolate, scorched earth, baking cocoa, more peat, some woody dryness, raisins. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with further dry cocoa, a bit of smoke, burnt caramel, earthy bitterness, brownies. Great stuff overall. Good sturdy barrel character coming through.
