This foreign-style stout pours blacker than the blackest black. The roasty, chocolatey, espresso-like notes you expect from a good stout are taken up a notch in this high-gravity brew, also delivering flavors of caramel, leather and a hint of licorice. Surprisingly easy drinking with a nice medium bitterness, this richly-flavored beer has a satisfying clean finish.

Draught from R&H. Flattiish brown black pour. Not a ton of head. Some bits of fruit, and maltiness, light hops. nothing special here.

Warren draught, 12/24/24.
Clear, dark. Small, light tan head.
Raisin, dark chocolate, moderate roast and mild caramel. Lovely base malts with biscuity, not over-roasted barley. Clean, moderately fruity yeast.
Chewy with heavy dark chocolate. Coffee bean lingering alongside vanilla and mild caramel. Just a bit too roasty, I think, in flavor, though the texture is great. Lingering chocolate and mild dark fruit. Chewy, fruity, clean.

On tap at Kuhnhenn - Clinton, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out robust roasted malt, a hint of earthy coffee, and some dry powdered cocoa. Flavour is dry and bitter, with earthy powdery cocoa and moderate roasted malt. A bit rough, but there's a good depth to it. Solid.

On tap at Church Key, DC. A more or less black one, topped by a dense beige head. The aroma is rather roasted, almost burnt, with some dark dried fruit. It’s super smooth in the mouth, full bodied and semi-dry. Roasted malts, dark chocolat, some coffee grit and a roasted malt kind of bitterness in the lasting finish. Perhaps a bit sweet and burnt, but it’s a fine brew indeed. 150620

Nice stuff. Lits of musky peat like roast with hints of smoke. Well balanced. Bitter finish. Hints of coffee. Black pour without much head or lacing. Tap at Churchkey.
