La birra trappista viene prodotta dai monaci dell’Abbazia delle Tre Fontane a Roma. È una birra ad alta fermentazione prodotta con una ricetta esclusiva che si avvale della sapienza secolare dei monaci, ma rinvenuta fortunosamente in tempi recenti. È una birra color oro intenso dal sapore incisivo e fruttato con l’eucaliptus – piantato dai monaci per bonificare la zona circostante l’abbazia – che stringe le note fruttate portandole a sé.Per affinare la qualità della birra sono trascorsi alcuni anni, ma nel 2015 le è stato finalmente attribuito il marchio ATP (Authentic Trappist Product), l’undicesimo assegnato nel mondo.

ABV: 8.5%. Clear medium orange yellow colour with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly to fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, fruity malt, eucalyptus, dried fruit, light pine, moderate yeasty, sweet yeast - candy. Flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter with a average to long duration, candy - sweet yeast, sweet dried fruit, eucalyptus, pale malt, sweet malt, fruity malt, dried fruit, triple yeast. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to lively. [20210512]

Bottle, 8.5%. Sweetish aroma, hint of yeast and a spicy fruit note. Hazy amber colour. The flavour is caramelly and spicy with a decent bitterness. Late yeast note. Knowing it is eucalyptus, I can taste the bonbon type of eucalyptus notes.

Bottle. Pours murky amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of fruit and malt, with notes of flowers. Sweetish flavour of malt, with bitter, hoppy and spicy notes and touches of yeast. Bitter and clovelike aftertaste with estery notes. High carbonation. Nice but I wonder where the eucalyptus power have gone.

Nach dem einzigen englischen Trappistenbier finde ich glatt das einzige italienische Bier dieser Klasse im gleichen Geschäft 3 Wochen später -allerdings nur in dem Regal mit den abgelaufenen Bieren zum halben Preis. Mein Exemplar war schon ein Jahr abgelaufen... Aber probieren wollte ich es unbedingt. Und auch wenn es schon ein bisschen ältlich-muffig schmeckte, konnte ich die feinen Gewürzaromen nach Zimt, Weihrauch, Koriander, Nelken und natürlich Eukalyptus gut rausschmecken und mich an deren EIntracht erfreuen. Es ist etwas herber als die meisten Belgier, aber weiß dennoch zu überzeugen.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a cloudy amber with a dense, creamy and lacing head with a neat retention. Is that ginger in the nose? Fairly rich and solid, malty body, somewhat oxidized it seems. And the spicy notes are not ginger but eucalyptus. Not sure how well it fits in a beer really. But pleasantly smooth on the palate. Not in my Top 200 of Tripels. 210121

11.2 oz. Aroma has notes of bread, clove, oxidation, mint, toffee. Pours murky brownish orange with a large off-white head that collapses into a ring and skiff of foam after a minute. Taste is moderately sweet with a lightly bitter herbal hop finish. Mouthfeel is foamy. A little too oxidized for me, but it's not bad. I wish I had a fresher example.

Creamy white good mostly lasting head. Orange colour. Light malty and hoppy and moderate yeasty aroma. Moderate bitter flavor. Average moderate bitter finish. Creamy palate.
