Keg at the Craft Beer Co, Covent Garden. Poured a clear medium amber with a whispy white head. The aroma is smoky bacon. The flavour is moderate bitter with a light chilli spice, light smoke palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. I’m not a fan of smoked beers but this one I liked.

330ml bottle. Barely clear, orangey golden colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Relatively mild, smoky aroma, hints of bacon, smoked sausage etc. Taste is mild smoky, minimally tart and herbal, a very cautious sweet malty touch; accumulating, smoky and peppery spiciness in the finish. Although probably the same basic beer as the "Smoke", somehow better balanced. OK additional chipotle spiciness.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; clear amber pour with a thin white head, bonfire aroma, taste is not as scary as the aroma I was expecting a phenol laden nightmare, but the smoke is quite mellow with some sweet malts and a bit of a chilli kick, interesting beer.

Draft at Craft, Covent Garden. Pours clear amber with an off white head. Aroma of smoke, burnt malts, caramel, fruity peppers and light butterscotch. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light bitter. Growing chilli warmth in the finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Pigs Ear. Cask. Hazy gold - amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light, semi dry and with just modest carbonation. Light pale malts, mild to medium smoke. Chilli kicks in and provides a low level burn. Light dry finish, chilli warmth lingers on. It feels a little dirty.

Cask gravity at Pigs Ear 2014. Thanks to Keane. Smokey aroma bit of heat but more like smoked paprika. Good actually.
