From bottle at Noordelijk Kerst- en Winterbierenfestival 2017. Aroma is lots of oak, red fruits, whiskey, soft dark chocolate malt, sherry, syrup. Flavour is sweetish with a sour hint. Body is medium. This was probably infected, but it was pretty nice anyway.

Bottle. Dark color, short frothy head. Aroma of leather, bit peated whisky, dakrk malts. Bit dry in taste, slight peat, bit funky. Weird.

750 ml. bottle sampled @ ’t Antwaerps Bierhuiske during Bronckhorster tasting. 4 months on second use barrels if I remember correctly. Black with big tanned head, big bubbles. Nose is rather boozy, low varnish, big on overripe fruit, red grape sourness, fizzy with licorice sweetness. Taste is weird overripe fruit, spoiled fruit, spoiled red grape low sourness, glue, licorice, weirdly fizzy, sweet malts,… Overly fizzy & strangely sour. Far below the base beer for me, could have been far worse given the sourness, spoiled fruits & fizzy. Brewery crew advertised the sourness as a positive thing, praised it for having more oak character as opposed to whisky / vanilla notes etc. I like those, I don’t like this weird fizzy spoiled fruits notes,…. Others dug the sourness,… Successful marketing or difference in taste – I enjoyed this one less than the rest. Definetly could have been worse given everything.

Draft at The Hague beer festival. Black with a beige head. Aroma of scotch, oak barrel, infection, fruity notes, caramel. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a little sourness from the infection. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Sampled from tap at Bierfestival Groningen 2016. Pitch black with a thin, frothy, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, slightly smoky aroma of molasses, raisins, dark chocolate, coffee and some peat. Sweet-malty, slighly smoky taste of molasses, caramel, raisins, prunes, some peat and vanilla, followed by a long, slightly bitter, warming-alcoholic finish. Medium body, slightly oily mouthfeel, flat. Nice, but very sweet!
