It’s hard being the sequel, unless you wrote the original story. Inspired by the continual hopping process we invented with 90 Minute IPA, 60 Minute builds on that one-of-a-kind process and flavor, crafting a solid gold hit that’s found its own identity.
Brewed using a boatload of intense Northwest hops, we boil this continually hopped IPA for a full 60 minutes, adding more than 60 hop additions continuously to create a bold and timeless flavor. Continually hopped to deliver a pungently, citrusy, grassy hop flavor without being crushingly bitter, 60 Minute IPA is a surprisingly sessionable IPA for the craft enthusiast.
You’ll quickly see why this sequel has become our best selling beer, and why you’ll find yourself coming back to it again and again.
The Greatest Invention You’ll Ever Taste
It was back in the mid-90s when we started messing around with extreme versions of super hoppy IPAs. We would use foolhardy amounts of hops, creating a really pronounced bitterness that seemed out of place.
After an ‘aha!’ moment while watching a cooking show on TV, Dogfish Head founder & CEO Sam Calagione tracked down one of those old school vibrating football games to help feed the beer a continual stream of hop pellets. Boom! Continual hopping was born!
You see, traditionally brewers make two hop additions - one big dose early in the boil for flavor, and another bunch at the end for aroma. But thanks to a rigged up football-machine-turned-continual-hopper and our addition of equal increments throughout the entire boil, Sam was able to create an outrageously hoppy IPA, without being crushingly bitter.
Now all these years later, and after much more sophisticated second, third and fourth generation contraptions have taken over our continual hopping process, the theory and execution are essentially unchanged.
In 2019 we celebrate the 20th anniversary of continual hopping and the really special experience that comes with it. Who knew that a thrift store game and a random cooking show would put us on a path to creating ‘the greatest invention you’ll ever taste.’

0.33l bottle @ Tribeca Tavern NYC. As good as clear in the glass and golden in color with a really good looking big good retention just off-white head. Lovely fresh fruity nose with lots of peachy fruitiness. It's actually a bit tropical also with pineapple and traces of pine. Yeah, really nice. Lovely flavors. It has a strong sweetness that is well balanced. Almost a roasty undertone with something that clearly strikes my palate as rye. Good oily on the mouthfeel and just below average on the mouthfeel. 10.06.2013

Tap in The Pub, Orlando 20th November 13. Excellent IPA, very drinkable, citrus and pine and easy to session. Had 2 Hearted after this, 2 Hearted is better IMO. Have a bottle to try also

355 ml. bottle poured in to a tulip. Deep golden colour, almost copper with a dense, white head. Fruity aroma with floral and citrus hops, pines, sweet exotic fruits, oranges and peaches. Caramel malts. Very hoppy and fruity. Taste is bitter. Medium body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes dry and bitter with a good fruitiness. Excellent IPA.

Bottle @ home shared with Dutchdrebus. Clear orange color, small to medium sized white to off - white head. Smell malts and hops, though not very profoundly. Taste malts, hops, nicely bitter, nice hop-bitterness. I miss a bit of fruityness in it. Medium body, medium to full carbonation.

6% from Kohosk at 40 DKK a bottle. A soft yellow gold with a thick white head of foam. The aroma was sweet caramel & floral hops. The taste is fruity, light caramel, a touch of pine but mostly floral/herbal notes. A nice clean flavor profile but nowhere near as rich & complex as the 90 minute.
