Leute Bokbier was first brewed in 1927. It was then called Leutebock and was a lager (bottom fermentation), a completely different beer than the current one. Production was stopped after a number of years. In 1997, 70 years later, Leute Bokbier was relaunched as a completely different beer.

Fun fact: the name “bokbier” does not refer to bokbier, but literally to the ''bok'' or buck.

Bottle, 0.33l. Deep ruby pour, one finger soapy beige head. Medium retention, nice lacing on the glass. Nose is nutty with mild notes of chocolate, subtle coffee. Thin to medium body, medium to high carbonation. Prickly, fizzy mouthfeel. Somewhat light texture. Taste is a bit on the bitter side, malt sweetness in the background. Slightly metallic. Aroma is malty, caramel and toffee, notes of chocolate and coffee. Nutty, bready. A bit of acohol burn on the tongue, drying. Medium finish. Overall, ok. Decent brew let down by metallic notes that get in the way of the aroma. Solid otherwise.

Bottle 0,33. A sör gyönyörű.

The beer is beautiful. It has an extremely durable, strong, solid head. The color of the bock beers is the lighter category. It has a very high carbon content. What I missed are the really brown beer notes: caramel, coffee, fruitiness. I like a brown beer to taste coffee or caramel as well, but it has few brown beer notes. Of course, it is highly recommended, harmonious, and the score I think is realistic.

At Cambrinus, Bruges. Pours hazy dark brown with a big, foamy, off-white head. Comes in a nice tumbler with wooden holder. The aroma contains roasted malt, nuts, chocolate, yeast, bread and dark fruits. It tastes light to medium sweet and light bitter; rather short, but subtle and light roasted finish. Medium body, slick to watery texture, fizzy carbonation. Taste is somewhat restrained, too subtle. Goes well with a meat dish, though.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. A light reddish brown, almost clear with an off-white ring of head. Smells of toffee, forest fruits, gentle potpourri. Sweet, sweet taste, a little sickly for me if truth be told, but theres a light rounding cherry sourness of the boozy finish. Clove and sour cherry in the aftertaste. Massive carbonation. It rightsizes in the end but there are fairly obvious balance issues. Too much of a muchness.
