Poured into a chalice, the appearance was a mostly dark red close to brown color with a thin quickly dissipating cap of a white fizzy head. Slightly forms valleys here and there in what’s left
of the head.
The aroma has some dates, figs, plums, Belgian sugars, brown sugars, subtle milk chocolate, light bready notes and caramel malts. Subtle spices of coriander and sage.
The flavor leads with semi-sweet with an embracing sticky malt bill of the previously mentioned sweet aromas. Quick crisp toasty to caramel malt aftertaste with finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body with a decent sessionable feel about it. Carbonation felt fine as it is. A bit smoother than expected for a so called-quad.
Overall, Belgian dark strong ale is what I would classify this as. It seems to lose some of its gripping expected Belgian throaty feel in the back of the throat. But Magic Hat has brewed much worse, this
one is not bad at all. I could see myself drinking this again.

A clear reddish copper ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, loads of caramel malt with light spicy notes, cinnamon, cloves, fruity esters, dark fruits, plums, very nice. In mouth,, a nice sweet caramel malt with candy sugar, dark fruits, light cinnamon, a bit thin but good. On tap at CNY Brewfest 2016.

Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a murky brown color with a small beige head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was malty, a bit woody and had a sour fruit note. The flavor was cherries, fig, malty, toffee and a touch boozy with a woody and medicinal undertone. Long finish. Medium body and a bit flat. Disappointing.

Draught @ Waterfront Ale House. Opaque dark brown with small frothy beige head, very faint roasted malt aroma, low carbonation, sweetish roasted malt taste with alcohol undertones, abrupt finish leaving alcohol aftertaste. The alcohol taste is too prominent

750 ml bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy deep ruby red color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big raisin, prune, pear, fig, date, caramel, toast, molasses, toffee, dark candi sugar, brown bread, clove, banana, chocolate, biscuit, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance of dark malt, fruit, and yeast ester notes; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, prune, pear, fig, date, caramel, toast, toffee, molasses, brown bread, dark candi sugar, chocolate, clove, banana, biscuit, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of dark fruits, caramel, toast, toffee, molasses, dark candi sugar, brown bread, chocolate, clove, banana, biscuit, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and balance of dark malt, fruit, and yeast ester flavors; with big robustness and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic Belgian strong dark ale! All around awesome complexity, balance, and robustness of dark malt, fruit, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Deep dark brown body with a thick, three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, pit fruit sugars and a bit of yeast - fairly nice. Medium-bodied; Assertive sweetness up front with candy sugar, some pit fruits and raisins, a little bit of yeast and a good alcohol warmth at the end. Aftertaste shows mostly pit fruit sweetness, a bit of earthiness and a prolonged yeastie flavour that shows well. Overall, a nice beer that has a good flavour profile, if not super complex, but a good beer to sample. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased a few hours earlier today at New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 01-November-2013 for US$3.00, sampled in my hotel room here in New York on 01-November, yes this 750 mL bottle was purchased for 3 DOLLARS!

Magic Hat Brewery (Artifactory according to them): Pours a darkish color, but lighter than what I would expect from a quad. Aroma is a whole lot of caramel, fruit, and sugar. I would perhaps think that this was a barley wine or a sweet strong ale. Taste is much in the same direction. Belgian yeast presence is felt, but not by enough exactly. Flavour profile is different from a conventional quad, but still pretty well done. Perhaps too sweet to have too much of, but still pretty good.
