Caramel nose with clove accents. Clear orange, thin head. Powerfully grainy and malty, with a sweet and slightly tangy dried leaves and cherry tinge. The barley is still the main attraction. Perhaps too tangy, but the emphasis on the malt makes this an outstanding maerzen. Quaffable, an excellent festbier.

12 oz bottle from Thiesti! Thanks Tim! Nose of slightly sweet caramel, vanilla, and yeastiness. Clear copper with a mediu, lightly lacing, cream colored head. Flavor is slightly sweet, slightly bitter, with lots of caramel. Finish lightly bitter.

16 oz draft at Waldo Pizza in Kansas City, Missouri. Served in a really nice Schlafly glass. Pour is clear orange golden copper with an off white head. Aroma of not too much, a bit of fruity malt, and a note od something chemical behind that. Taste starts with a slight chemical cherry sweetness, followed by floral and caramel malt. Palate is thin medium, light carbonation. Easy to drink, and nice enough.

bottle - I drank this one side by side with a Saranac Oktoberfest for comparison. Pours an attractive clear amber color with a small white head. The aroma is mild caramel malt with maybe a hint of fruit. It has a sweet, clean caramel malt flavor with minimal hops and a medium body. The finish is lightly roasted malt. Pretty good, but the Saranac wins by a hair.

Bottle. Clear amber body. Big, rocky off-white head, mostly diminishing. Malty aroma of caramel, toast and bread. Hint of honey. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly bitter with a tangy, toffee taste that lingers. Medium body, watery texture and medium carbonation. A solid Oktoberfest with its sweet, malty character, ending with a light bitterness and tang.

Bottle. Amber color. Little head. Mildly spicy aroma. Near medium body and moderate carbonation. Malty flavor, almost seems to have chocolate. Drinks well.

Sample at the Lambert St. Louis airport location. This beer is a clear copper-amber color with a medium thin off-white head that has a short life span. Top ring of lace with spots underneath. Sweet caramel malt aroma with a bit of pine. Medium-bodied and smooth with a sweet bready malt character. Touches of piney hops and spice here and there as well. The finish remains sweet with a short toasted malt aftertaste. Another average beer from Schlafly, but again a welcome sight while at the airport waiting for a plane.

Amber with a slight red tint, somewhat hazy, and a smallish if firm head. Restrained aroma hints at smoke, metal, light syrup, but its all really weak, the aroma is bareley there. Flavor smooth and mild, somewhat on the sweet side, but a light spicy hop provides complement. Light wheat bread finish. Medium body. I just can’t get past the lack of any detectable aroma and flavor here. Everything is just barely hinted at - yet you’d expect that in a light bodied beer, but this beer feels like it has something in the mouth, it just doesn’t taste like it.
