St. Benedict of Nursia lived in the late 5th to early 6th centuries. Legend has it while living in solitude, he was befriended by a raven that later saved his life. He is most remembered for writing the Rule of St. Benedict that, among other virtues, teaches humility. Inspired by this Rule we humbly offer St. Benedict’s Winter Ale, a hand-crafted ale using generous amounts of dark roasted malts and the finest noble hops for a robust warming flavor.

Bottle. Amber, copper color with a pretty good head. Aroma was spicy and slightly of cotten candy. Taste is slightly sweet with a nice subtle spice flavor.

A hazed reddish copper ale with a thin lacing light mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light honey, light mineral notes, tired. In mouth, sweet fruity malt with light cardboard notes, light plum, honey, tired and sad. Bottle about 6 years old.

Draught @ Draught 55. Another inky black beer with creamy chocolate colored head, they seem to be proliferating. This one has a doughy aroma, low carbonation, sweetish taste with roasted malt at the background. It actually disappointed me a bit, I expected a stronger taste with possibly mocha flavors, but no. Well there is still some lingering chocolatey taste after a longish finish. Good but not great.

Big and black beauty with nice head, shouldah been a 5. Like a black ipa on the palate. Perhaps a bit difficult to the unexpected. Yes, wew, dark beer fer sure. When i saw winter I thunk spicey but it is not; more like dark roasted strong beer. Yes, this must be black IPA, not strong ale, but I’m not doubting its strong, heheh. Thick medicinal finish. Not typical of the friendly point brand beers I’ve had in the past. Yes, either black ipa or baltic porter.

Bottle. Light caramel malt aroma. Amber with large tan head. Very light sweet caramel malt and mildly bitter herbal hops flavor. Mild alcohol finish. Okay - I prefer this to the spiced ones though.

This beer pours a clear dark copper color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of dark fruit and spices. Medium body with flavors of sweet malt, raisin and spice. The finish is sweet with a caramel malt aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

12oz bottle-pours copper with a light tan head. Aroma is spice, light fruit, some caramel. Taste is spice hops, medium malt-roasty/caramel/cocoa. 1st 6oz a bit thin, 2nd 6oz towards medium body.

12 oz. bottle from Bert’s Better Beers. Used English pint glass. Color is a nearly see through amber, light carbonation that produces a respectable amount of head. Laced well all the way until finish. Nose is strictly light malt. Sweet flavors dominate the palate. Sugar, bready malt and toffee are the flavors I’m getting. Residual sugar lingers in the finish. Not bad in any way but nothing that makes it memorable either.
