This beer is an American adaptation to the classic Belgian style of beer known as a Tripel. Historically Tripels were brewed to have a very light golden color, a moderate hop presence, and be around 9% alcohol. But we are not in Belgium, so I decided to crank up the hops, dry hop the beer with American Amarillo hops, and brew it to 10% ABV. This is our American Tripel, enjoy.

Sensory Profile:

Enjoy in a goblet or wine glass.

Tropical fruit and honey are the two biggest aromas coming from this lively brew. While the hop bitterness is not as powerful as an IPA, the hop flavor melds nicely with the fruity flavors created by the imported Belgian yeast strain used.

Food Pairing: This beer goes great with roasted vegetables, fish and rotisserie chicken. And it can be used as a aperitif before dinner with shrimp cocktail.

On tap at Rattle N Hum. It pours a hazy golden yellow, with low but sharp carbonation and a thin white head. The nose is mango, pineapple, apple, strawberry and hay. It tastes of tropical fruit as above, as well as: banana, hay, grass, some soap and very well hidden alcohol. It’s very light and fruity and reminds somewhat of Lilt.

750 ml bottle. Golden body with floaters and a thin white head. Aroama is fruity, spicy, perfumed and white sugar. Flavor is fruity, spicy, feels a bit soapy perfumed and a hint of acidity with an almost harsh bitterness. Not bad but quite unusually both in aroma and flavor. Almost like an American interpretation of a Saison. Nice, but something is not quite right.

Bottle, 75cl it seems. It pours a clear, golden body with a few floaties and a finger-thick off-white head. Cellar and fruityness on the nose. Some sourish notes. Hay and perfume. Hints of hops and white sugar. White sugar, flowery hops and some alcohol in the flavor. The flavor is more pleasant and complex than the aroma. Full body, pleasant bitterness, especially in the end. A nice one that really deserves a better aroma. Nice. 110301

Cloudy orange - amber beer. Soft and semi dry palate. Fairly bitter grapefruit harshness that runs throughout. A little sweet orange in the mid and an aniseed spicy finish provide some interest.

2007 Bottle thanks to CaptainCougar. Gusher. Pours with a large fluffy white head over a murky golden body. Aroma of tropical fruits, dates, candi sugar, pickled ginger, white wine, fennel and some alcohol. Also a bit of a musty/attic flavor. Flavors of dried apricots, tangerines, candied sugar, baked bread (of the sweeter variety). Lightly aged quality to it. A decent amount of alcohol and a good amount of bitterness for a Tripel. Very lively carbonation, warming with a long duration of flavors.
