A dense light tan head over a dark mahogany body. A big sweet nose with toffee, booze, dark berries and hops. If you like big sweet and fruity BWs, this one is for you. Dark molasses, crème brule, prunes, dark berries and fruity hops. A touch of oak and vanilla fill out the taste profile. A rich, creamy mouth feel. Stupendous.

2011 version drank 2022. Pours clear, dark amberbrown with a red glow. No real head. Scent is typical, dried fruits, caramel. Not as negative (due to age) as I expected ! Taste is fairly intense, medium bitterness. milder oxidation (pleasant surprise) not at all as intense as I'd expect from a beer this old. Caramel, mildly nutty, dried fruits are a bit more hidden. Still very good, love the aftertaste more than the first taste though.

Botle @ ZEBF 2015. Aroma of raisin and malt, the usual thing, Taste is also quite straight forward, with ripe fruit, raisin, caramel, malt and some mild hops. Decent.

Reviewed from notes. Rcvd in trade.
This was poured into a chalice.
The appearance was a nice looking dark brown to black color with half finger-ed off white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. There was some nice light lacing sticking finely to the glass.
The smell had a nice blend of sweet and roasty caramels, toffee, chocolates, light breadiness, and coffee beans combining wonderfully.
The taste took those flavors and combined them extremely well.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium to heavy on the body (of course when I had this, it was only two months old). Yup, sure was a sipper -no doubt about that.
Overall, this was an extremely wonderful Barleywine well worth my time in having on a cold Alaskan night.
