A black lager with the hop profile of an IPA – literally the hoppiest beer ever brewed at Camden Town Brewery – dry-hopped with a whopping 24 kilos of Columbus, Galaxy, Mosaic & Simcoe, the most we’ve ever packed into a beer, the hop bitterness complimented by the roast character of the darker malts that make this a Black IPL.
Available in keg and bottle.

(Bottle) Dark brown colour with hints of ruby. Frothy beige head, leaving traces of lacing. Malty, roasted nose with dark chocolate, black rye bread, coffee, roasted nuts, pine needles, mint and tropical fruit. Malty, roasted, hoppy taste with notes of chocolate, roasted nuts, black rye bread, coffee, some tobacco, liquorice, dried fruit, tropical fruit and a balanced piney bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well made, with a fresh piney, tropical hop presence. Nice one.

Bottle at Stuu’s. Pours clear dark brown with a thin tan head. Aromas of hop resin, something near mint, light tar. Taste is all this together. Very nice. Bitter finish.

330ml bottle. Opaque, dark brown colour with average to huge, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Roasty dark malty and herbal hoppy aroma, slightly citrusy and piney, Black IPA-typical notes of green onion, a touch of coffee on the malty side. Taste is roasty dark malty, herbal hoppy overtones, minimally citrusy, piney, a minimally tannic touch as well. Nothing left of a Lager profile.

Bottle from Camden Town brewery and drunk on the train home. Grapefruit hoppy aroma. It’s a schwarz with American hops. A black ipa lager. It’s ok but way too gimmicky for me. Good flavour and finish though. Camden make some very accomplished lagers.
