Bottle at Josh’s Farewell bash, thanks to the man himself, 20/02/14. Extremely dark mahogony brown meets light black with moderate tan spotting/edgework. Nose is light smoke, medicinal tones, TCP, dark roast, toffee, ashtray, all about the smoke. Taste comprises lighter levels of smoke, dark maltings, dark toffee, pinch of spice. Medium + bodiment, fine carbonation. Ok smoke laden impy.

Bottle shared in London at Josh’s farewell tasting. Thanks to Josh himself for this Aussie treat! Pours clear, dark brown with a creamy beige head. Novel aroma, a bit of smoked malts, perhaps some burnt meat. Light to medium sweet flavor with smoke, burnt ham, minerals, a bit of basement must. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Musty dark malt finish, some smoke, dank earth. Interesting.

Bottle thanks to Josh. It pours near black with as all tan head. The nose is rich roast, plum, prune, candy, port, wood, rum, smoke, medicinal and vinous notes. The taste is prune, plum, roasted malt, toast, earth, faint burnt notes, medicinal notes and good bitterness with a dry finish. Mediumish body and moderate carbonation. Solid.

Bottle 330ml @Beer Hunters
Deep black color, small brownish head. Nose has dark malts, rhum, smoke and some cellary "barrel" aromas. Medium-bodied, even a bit thin for this ABV. Kind of alcoholic, smoke and tar, some rhum notes. Basicly flavors are ok, but could have more depth.

330ml bottle @ Leijuva Lahna, Helsinki
Bottled 01 JUL 2013 - Pours pitch black with a smooth light brown head. Strong and heavy aroma with notes of smoke, rum, booze, wood, leather, hints of tartness and berries. Taste is a bit untypical and layered with notes of smoke, wood and berries, roasted malts, some leather, rum and booze. Finish is smooth, warming and a bit sticky with notes of alcohol, rum, leathery smoked wood and oak. Quite complex, but a bit unbalanced.

Aroma is nice with tar, some rum notes and bretta. Flavour has bretta, peat, tar and rum notes. Leathery palate. Unusual but good.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Hilpeä Hauki, 20131001) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had smoke, wood, peat and roasted malts. Palate was full bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, rum, wood, smoke, sweetness and low bitterness. Aftertaste had wood, rum, sweetness and bitterness. The barrel was pushing through too heavily.

Pours black with a quickly fading head.Nose shows peated malt, smoke, soft rum, roasted barley and soft coffee. The peat is pretty full0on.Intense flavours, more peat and rum at the forefront with a heavy whack of roast malt and booze. Finishes hot.Carbonation is all but flat, could really be higher.

Bottle. Black with a light tan head that settles to a 1/2cm and lasts well. Aroma of chocolate, sweet dough, molasses/ rum, nutmeg, blackberries, peat. Thinner body than expected and much more peaty than suggested by the aroma. Sweet rum, coffee, with appley tanginess coming though as well as peppery and prickly spices. OK, lots of interesting things going on but rather let down by the lack of body. Maybe the barrel influence is a bit much for me as well.
