[backlog] 29-01-15 / bottlein Orbost, Australia. light bodied bitter. I started rating my beers with Untappd and a few basic notes. Now I want to rate them on ratebeer. So my rating sometimes lack some information. Just ignore it, it is for my personal statistics. Untappd-Rating 2.5/5

On tap at the Charming Squire, Brisbane on 3rd September 2015. Copper with shallow off-white foam and scant lacing. Rich malt, herby grassiness and pungent earthiness in aroma. Tangy citric hoppiness in-mouth with grassy kick and savoury touch. Grassy and herby finish. Light bodied with a crisp, refreshing texture.

345ml bottle into schooner glass. Distant malt nose. Deep golden copper colour with solid white.head. Light carbonation. Watery mouthfeel, smoky malt taste. Light citric finish. Adequate thirst quencher. Like an English Bitter with ’Aussie’ carbonation.

Nice looking pour from the tap at the Generous Squire. After that, its a rather pedestrian bitter, and kind of bland. Have my tastes been dulled by NW hops? Just not getting anything out of this brew.

(Bottle) Clear golden copper with thin loose head. Mixed aroma with some nice citrus hop notes, but also some metallic and wet dog notes. Light body with good carbonation. Nice refreshing taste uses the hops all the way through from good citrus notes at the start evolving into decent bitterness in the fairly long finish. This is overlaid on a pleasant, albeit quite understated maltiness. Overall a very nice easy drinking beer with a good hop / malt balance.

Bottle, 11C. Clear amber with a puffy white head. Aroma is grassy and earthy with caramel and peach. Carbonation is too high. Light bodied, pretty dry with modest bitterness that builds a bit. Light toffee, some peach, floral and spicy notes in the dry finish. A second glass and the palate is seeming a bit empty, which is a problem for this sort of thing. But it’s not bad at all.

From a 345ml bottle on 26/1/2014. pours a clear deep golden with a small head. Has a pleasant enough floral, fruity nose. Taste wise, you get some pronounced nutty malt and sweet citrus and stone fruit, and satisfying medium bitterness. Has a medium body and relatively lively carbonation. This is rather flavour packed for something that’s just 3.4%. Great to know you could sink a number of these at a bbq and still be good to drive. In my opinion, one of the better Squire’s I’ve tried (I’d take one of these over their over-rated pilsener or dull pale ale any day).
