This is not a “Milkshake”, it’s a “Juice Shake NE DIPA”! What’s that? First we start with an amazing base beer that was developed to make orange flavors through triple dry hopping, then we added loads of actual orange! Keep Cold, Drink Fresh. Unfiltered and super hoppy, sediment is normal so let it settle and leave it behind. Always pour into a glass. Cheers - LCB Brewmaster

Can from La Riviera in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy orange gold with a creamy white head. Aroma is very orange with a touch of zest. Med plus plus body. Flavor is orange with zest. It is fruity and bitter. Zesty bitter. Quite the experience. Nicely done.

473ml can. Murky, orangey colour with small, frothy, bubbly, fading, white head. Zesty, citrusy fruity, hoppy aroma, notes of bitter orange, blood orange, mandarine. Taste is tart-ish and zesty bitter, citrusy hoppy, notes of orange zest, blood orange, bitter orange, minimally sugary, sweet malty counterpart. Slightly warming finish with disguised alcohol - except for the warming effect. Orange juice indeed - or even closer to vodka orange.

16oz can via trade, thanks Arturo, shared with Tderoeck, post BBP Wanderlust. No BB.

New England style IPAs are a perfect vehicle for fruit and perhaps most expressively so for citrus fruit, so it comes as no surprise that in this whole juicy IPA trend we see happening worldwide, a NEIPA with added orange pops up every now and then. This is one such example, consumed from a can at Bar Beenhouwer, thanks to tderoeck. Egg-white, loose-bubbled, dissipating and eventually completely vanishing (I guess under influence of the citrus oil) head, cloudy orangey-tinged peach-yellow robe – with the head gone, looking exactly like a glass of Looza orange juice or something alike. Aroma bursts with real, if somewhat stale orange flesh and orange juice, with a touch of wodka-like alcohol reminding a bit of a Screwdriver; passion fruit, papaja, sweat, mojito and rubber impressions show up as well but orange remains the all-powerful factor. Same in the mouth: utterly fruity, very obvious and dominating orange juice with hints of lime and mango, rather spritzy carbonation, thin doughy malt body completely absorbed in this orange juice thing, zesty and quenching, sweet and citric, with only the slightest amount of end bitterness – you really need to go out and look for it, and even then, more of the finishing bitterness is due to wodka-like alcohol than due to actual alpha acid. Again a Screwdriver in beery guise, though the ‘beery’ aspect is to be taken with a pinch of salt in this case; a one-trick pony, but if the goal was to imitate orange juice, mission accomplished. I’d rather have a real orange juice instead.

Taste: fruity, lots of orange juice all right, soft acidity, orange peel, bitter, bit resinous. Aftertaste: more bitterness, orange peel, soft acidity, fruity notes, some peaches and apricot pits, some phenols, bit chemical, overripe fruits.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 29A/21B). Can 44.5 cl - Batch unknown (BBF unknown). AROMA: medium-high orange juice aroma with a slight alcoholic background (peppery) and slight sweetness. APPEARANCE: orange colour and hazy. medium-low light beige head with medium-low retention. TASTE: medium orange flavour, followed by a low peppery alcoholic background. medium-high bitterness with a dry and bitter finish. unbalanced. PALATE: medium-low body with medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: a fruit NE-DIPA with a bit too much orange presence and no discernible hop notes, rendering it unbalanced.

Can. Hazy orange gold beer, small cream colour head. Smooth and fairly light palate, decent fine carbonation. Light malts, light creamy sweet malts. Bright fresh orange juice. Quite remarkably fresh, well backed by lighter tangerine and mandarin. Light pine and lighter hop spice on the back end. I normally think that adding fruit juice is a bit of cheat and those flavours should come from the hops but there is no denying what the brewers have done here works really well. Struggling not to chugg the lot.
