Pours black into a tulip. Mocha head recedes to hug rim. Milk chocolate and espresso aromas. Thick with dark chocolate, marshmallow and hot espresso front to back. Lasting warm mocha burn.

(Bottle) Black colour with lasting, dense, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with black coffee, dark chocolate, cacao, black rye bread and liquorice. Malty, roasted taste with strong black coffee, cacao, liquorice, dark chocolate, spices (cinnamon, anise) and a slightly vinous finish with a generous coffee bitterness. Full body, with a touch of sweetness. Excellent imperial stout with a generous coffee and cacao character, and a slight alcohol warmth. Lovely beer in excellent balance.

Poured into a teku showing pitch black and sparse dark black foam around the edges. The nose shows a mix of black sugar, light caramel, light bourbon, and hints of adzuki bean. The palate is very light bodied and evenly carbonated. First flavors on the palate show a smokiness from the roasted malts, that deepens as it warms on the palate. More flavors of light bourbon and caramel appear. The finish shows practically no bitterness anywhere from anything. The same light bourbon flavors linger on the end. This is meant to be enjoyed a moderate place. Quite nice!

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: pours black with a tan head. Aroma is a ton of coffee with dark bitter and fruity chocolate and almoat no booze. Taste is moderately bitter. Low sweetness. Highly burned. No soy sauce. Not too heavy body. Quite good. But, in fairness, I seldom crave this beer or the style of heavily burnt stouts.

Black color with tan head. Lots of chocolate and round coffee. Dark fruits, slightly spicy, very rich, very complex. Amazing complexity and silky mouthfeel. Slight booze burn. Incredible how Mikkeller can brew a beer that balanced.

Draft at Mikkeller Bar during CBC weekend 2014. Big stuff. Pours deep black-brown with a dense, lasting beige cream head. Lots of milk chocolate, coffee, baking cocoa. Full bodied with fine carbonation; and it’s chewy. Warming finish with lingering bittersweet baking cocoa, bitter roasted malts, coffee grounds. Good but lacks a bit of balance.

Poured from a bottle it is a dark brown with a slight head. The aroma is coffee espresso and the taste is coffee and black licorice which resonates on the palate
