A classic Wisconsin Lager at it’s finest. Harking back to an era where Supper Clubs were In Vogue and Wisconsin had numerous regional breweries making their version of American Style Lagers. You know, back when these types of beers exhibited regional soul. And many of these beers were enjoyed during an evening spent at a local Supper Club, visiting with friends and family and having a good dinner. Supper Club is an eminently drinkable version of a true American Lager. Featuring a greater depth of refreshing malt character than the mass marketed versions of the style, Supper Club is clean yet satisfying.

Bottle, $1.50 from build-a-six rack at Binny’s. Twist off cap shows some oxidation in the headspace. Pours a clean yellow color into my narrow pils glass, rocky head of slightly off-white foam. Smell has some volatiles to it, like there’s corn involved in a big way. Taste is okay, but merely. Substantial but a bit sweet. Needs some finishing hops for balance. I suppose this can be claimed as a throwback to lagers of the 60s, but sometimes that’s just not enough.

12 ounce bottle from Woodmans Madison West. Pours a clear gold with note much of a head. Aroma of grainy, honey and very faint hop notes. The taste is sweet malts, some toastiness, grain, faintly hoppy finish. Thin bodied. It’s be nice if this had a hop cone or two in it, but its not bad. Bit too sweet.

Pour is a clear yellow with a large white head. Aroma is kinda grassy and some cereal. Flavor is a dry malt up front with a little adjunct toward the end. This beer is never going to get a good review but its good for a sessionable lager during warm months.

bouteille, de couleur dorée/foin, mousse blanche. Arôme, grains, léger malt et caramel, reste douce en bouche avec un arrière goût qui penche vers le mais. Le tout a une fine amertume qui ne reste pas trop présente. Une pale lager qui est au dessus du lot sans pour cela changer le style. Ça reste facile a boire sans être trop complexe.

Bottle. Clear, light golden body. Off-white, fizzy head, quickly diminishing. Aroma is more malty than hoppy, but does have hints of grass and straw. Otherwise, toasted grain with a hint of creamed corn. The flavor is lightly bitter and lightly to moderately sweet. It finishes lightly bitter and lightly sweet. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Fairly crisp. Nice for the style, but the there isn’t much to this style. In addition, the beer is too vegetative in aroma and flavor to be all that enoyable.

12 oz bottle at Blanc Burger + Bottles in Leawood, Kansas. Pour is clear yellow golden with a smallish white head that falls quick. Aroma is grain, sweet malt, a bit of cereal and toast. Taste is the malt, almost exclusively. Mildly sweet, bready, fresh tasting - but pretty one dimensional. There is a hint of hops, a touch of straw in the finish. Palate is light to medium bodied, lowish carbonation, clean and brief finish. Nice enough for the style.

Draft at the OF. Filtered yellow-tan color. Minimal patchy head. Pale malt aroma. Relatively straightforward stuff. Creamy and smooth, with just a touch of balancing hops. Medium bodied, lots of yeast flavor. A good Lager all the way, though a touch buttery.
