Notes from August 2009 I remember having this on cask last year. I think I wrote on my coaster big fruit & juicy. Obviously not enough material to write a review. So here we go. Last bottles from my Mayflower mixer. Twenty-four ounces, just to be sure. I missed dinner, those calories have to come from somewhere. :D Rounded pint glass pour. Chunky, yellowed head. Clear reddish/orange amber colored body. Sudsy, fat spiderweb lace. Smell is right upfront with pine. Down in front is watery melon, stale oregano, & okay malt which smells a whole lot like oatmeal. Taste is sharp caramel upfront, immediately bum-rushed by bittersweet pine resin. Grass & grapefruit rind peak through & keep it from becoming sticky. A little grain in between things, but not much. The pine rides straight through to the finish, where it gets a little harsh & medicinal with the ethanol. Carbonation could be better. The alcohol is a little stiff for just 7%. Lingering resin is a killer if you don't like it. No where close to what this can be on cask, but probably their second best year round offer behind the porter.

On tap at Sea Dog Brewpub in Yarmouth. Medium gold pour. Almost no head. Aroma of citrus and pine. Flavor is bittersweet citrus with notes of grapefruit and lemon pith. Pine and black pepper finish.

Can, from TapRm. Pours clear golden with large foamy off-white head, faint resin aroma, medium carbonation, bitter resinous taste, thin body, long bitter finish. Classic American IPA, on the bitter side.

Can [from trade, thanks Kevin!!] at home. Orange color, full sized white head that lasts a decent while. Aroma and flavor have old school hops, yet are a little bit... well, "faint" isn't the right word. It's kind of like they're lightly past their prime. So that tells me this must be pretty damn good when super fresh, as it is still quite a delight. Solid bitterness. Medium body, lightly oily texture, average to medium carbonation. Good.

Draft. Amber beer with a cream head. Light grapefruit aroma. Grapefruit and light summer fruit flavor. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and light spice linger with light pine.

Bottle and draft since inception.
Clear copper-brass. White head is medium-sized, showing modest retention.
Pine, pine and pine in the nose, with grapefruit, lemon and orange rind, as well. Definitely overdone/overboiled with vegetal notes and just heavy resin for days. Malts are sweet, almost cakey underneath, but don't balance.
In the mouth it shows an almost saccharine-like sweetness, but I think that's just the intense, piney resin mixing with the sweet malt. Past that, it's unbalanced and intensely bitter, like sucking on raw hop. Brisk carbonation, ok attenuation? Kind of hard to tell. No thanks.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from One Stop Market. Aroma is strong malty base with fruit, hints of pine and herbs. Appearance is cloudy golden yellow (large bits of sediment in suspension) with 1/2 finger-width white head with poor retention and small sudsy lacing. Taste is front half sweet malt, pine, fruit, and 2nd half light bitter. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with slick texture, average to lively carbonation with bitter finish. Overall, above average except for the appearance.
