Bottle from Toby. Musty and leathery, tannic and bitter. Dry and gritty. At it's core a solid barleywine, but got a bit musty with age.

Bottle - thanks Toby! Pours a deep amber color with a creamy rusty/beige head. Nose is a smooth blend of caramel malt and bourbon barrel. Heavily carbonated (one helluva loud popping of the cork) leads to a bit of a prickly feeling on the tongue at first. Drier caramel malts up front with some light toffee. The barrel aging really mellows out the middle and tail. Lightly dry, but still sweet finish. Nice.

22 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden deep amber to hazzlnut brown with a small to fully gone head. Aroma is dark malty and distinct hoppy fruity. Sweet, caramelish and fruity into a mild hoppy fruity flavour. Smooth fruity and caramelish far finish.

Bottle on a Ohio St vs Pen st battle on game day. Pours out hazy brown topped with a sand head. Aroma was of vanilla, bourbon, sweet caramel, and dark fruits. Taste was much more of the bourbon and vanilla. Also a nice balance of oak. Thanks Toby.

Big thanks to tpd975 for bringing another in a long long line of amazing brews to the weekly tasting. Pours clear copper with thin tan head. The aroma has pulses of sweet dark fruity esters moving into vanilla, oak and booze. The taste is smooth and near silky with malt and dark fruity ester sweetness followed by wood, vanilla and booze. This is just so smooth and tasty and carries a fairly full wood sensation from front to back. It seems to achieve a nice balance between barrel and barleywine notes. Upon further inspection it does lean some toward barrel rather than beer.

courtesy of tpd975. pours copper, beige head with nice golden lacing. Aroma had plenty of wood and barre; as well as a more malty and sugary presence than its non-whiskey version. Taste, barrel/wood, caramel malts, some vanilla and whiskey. This one was actually a lot more on the malty side. A fine tasty barley wine.

Bottle, 75cl corked. (RBNAG 07) It looks pretty in the glass, much more pretty than the label, with an almost clear, deep golden body, and an off-white head leaving lacings. The nose is malt based, with a sweetish touch and a nice American-style hop level. The sort of beer that I could bury my nose is for hours. The flavor is a more hop-dominated than I would like, without being to bitter, but it’s sure malty and sweet too. It has a full body, but still feels watery in a way. The finish is fruity, hoppy and sweet. Except for it being a bit thin and having a slightly unbalanced flavor, it’s a wonderful beer. Thanks to the_epeeist for providing it. (071103)

Bottle @ RBNAG’07. Quite clear mahogany body with a thick beige head. Strong aroma of malt, oak, vanilla and even some traces of coco. Flavor is very sweet malt, rather bitter and some oak. The alcohol is well hidden. This beer is full bodied, harmonic and nice. Not much to complain about here, still something is missing. With this kind of a big beer I expect something extra, something more depth. It’s a great beer, but it’s still potential for something more here.
