Better than the smoking guns. Smoked malt and some residual caramelized sense - the malt wasn’t burnt super thoroughly and that’s a good touch. Finishes bitter. Average carbonation. Pours brown with ok head and lacing. Tap at brewpub.

Dark brown with large carbonation bubbles and little head. Aroma is nice smoke, light sweetness, toasty, chocolate. Medium/thin body. Flavor starts with smoked ham, woody, sweet malts, cocoa. Finish is light smoke and a bit of sweetness. Easy going and highly enjoyable smoked.

Picked up mix and match sixer at brewery but this is only rate. Pours deep brown with roasted nose. Tastes of cocoa, wood, and root beer. It’s pretty smokey without being over poweringly so. Quite good

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 8/29/11

Aroma: The nose is smoked pork, roasted malts, brown sugar, and a bit of coco powder
Appearance: Pours a dark brown-black color with a thin off-white head, and fairly minimal lace
Flavor: An interesting combination of smokey and sweet, smoke lingers on the taste buds
Palate: Light-medium bodied, with soft-to-average carbonation, and a somewhat creamy mouthfeel
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty good Smoked Porter. I don't always love the super smokey rauchbiers, so maybe those who love the style might disagree with me, but I really liked the way the sweetness played off of the smokiness here. Good stuff.

Pours black into a Sam glass. Mocha micro head recedes to nothing. Smoke aromas. Medium bodied with sweet caramel upfront turning to chocolate and smoke in the lasting finish.

On tap, at Mugs Alehouse, on 22nd July 2009. deep red almost black; hazy with a pale brown diminishing head. Plenty of roast malt with a smoky bouquet comprising mainly cigar smoke notes. Delicious.

Sampled on draft at Rivertowne Pub in North Huntingdon PA this beer poured a black color with a small tan head that faded fairly quickly. The aroma was lightly roasty, a bit metallic and had a hint of smoke. The flavor was sweetish, malty and had a moderate wood smoke element with a hint of roasty malts underneath. The smoke was nicely noticable but not overwhelming.

Bottle. This beer has a lot going for it, not the least being the smokiness blends well with the other flavors rather than dominating them. Large, fizzy, tan head. Deep reddish-brown body. The huge aroma is full of peat, roasted, toasted and burnt malts, smoke, bitter chocolate and a hint of toffee. The flavor is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter and moderately to heavily acidic. Medium to full body, water texture and soft carbonation. Long, dry finish.

On tap at the Bocktown, nice place. Typical attractive porter bouquet. A very dark root beer colored beer. Fairly roasty with out too much bitterness. A nice example of a dark beer. Some of the 6.3% alky shows thru but overall it is well hidden. Bitterness builds thru the session. Some mild carbonation. In summary, not too bad. Smokiness is present but not overwhelming as with many smoked beers. Good example of an unoffensive decent dark beer.
