Michelob Porter is brewed using the finest classic aroma hop varieties grown in the Pacific Northwest United States and two-row, caramel and chocolate barley malts, giving it an aroma of coffee and a hint of chocolate. It is dark brown in color and, when held to light, ruby-red highlights can be seen. The porter complements a variety of cheeses, shellfish dishes as well as chocolate desserts, and is best enjoyed when served in a traditional pub style glass.

Pours copper, tan head. Aroma and taste have plenty of malts, with a penchant for chocolate notes. There is just plenty of roasted malts to go around here, grains, with a nice chocolate/coffee feel. Fairly decent porter, easy to drink, not too complex, had a bitter chocolate finish.

Medium brown. Roasty, chocolatey aroma with cheap coffee. Thin, lightly toasty. Really lame. All-malt...really? It’s just too thin.

12 oz. bottle from a sampler. Chocolate brown pour with a one-finger head and low head retention. Very, very faint aroma is straight roasted malt. Roasted malt taste with bitter coffee notes. Medium bodied. Not bad.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown with a massive head. Still, it looks very thin. Aromas are weak-roasted malt. Flavor is not much better. I’ll give AB some credit for having a bit of an earthy/molasses flavor here, but there are still medicinal/metallic edges to it which I can’t seem to get around. I noticed this in the Pale Ale, too...

OK, why doesn’t a brewer with near infinite resources and claims to a wealth of brewing history not make a better Porter? I love the “All Malt” claim on the label just so you know it is legit. It poured out of the 12oz bottle with a deep amber body and thin tan head. The mild-meek aroma is mildly roasty malts with chocolate malts and a hint of fruity esters. The taste Is roasty up front and starts to climb the ladder toward burnt malts but decides to detour into a bit of caramelized malts mixing with chocolate malts but without any richness or depth. Ends nearly neutral with a mild malt tea sensation like taking a little sip of pre-pitched low gravity wort.

Bottle. Nearly opaque brown color with a minimal beige/tan head. Light chocolate notes over toasted malt. Medium body with fizzy carbonation. Flavor is primarily toasted malt. There is a little chocolate, and likely some hop bitter. It finishes decently dry, and it’s very drinkable. Possibly the best A-B product I’ve ever had. It’s a respectable porter.

12oz bottle -pours a foamy tan head and mahogany color. Aroma is medium/dark malt-chocolate, lactose. Taste is medium/dark malt-chocolate/caramel, grainy, lactose, dark fruit, secondary earthy hops.

bottle - I had this one immediately following an Oaken Barrel porter (rated that one a 3.6), so a comparison was easy to make and the Michelob just doesn’t hold up. It pours dark brown with a one finger head. But where’s the aroma? It’s weak with slight roastiness and some grain that I wouldn’t expect from this style. The taste is roast malt that’s on the light side for a porter and there’s some chocolate in there as well. It’s smooth and quaffable with a medium body and while it isn’t bad, it’s a pretty mediocre porter.

Dark black body with a medium creamy tan head. Sweet roasted malt, slightly burnt. Sweet roasted malt flavor, light chocolate and a touch of coffee. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.

See-through brown pour with tan head. Smoky, burnt malt aroma. Notes of gain, chocolate and coffee. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Lightly dry finish. A smoky, burnt flavor sticks around for awhile. Light to medium body and watery texture. Average, but quite drinkable.
