Expect this ale to pour a glass brimming with rich caramel flavors along with an intense hop aroma that you won't soon forget. Cleanly bitter and aromatic, this ale is not for the faint of heart.

Sweet malts below bitter citrus and perfume provide an enjoyable balance of aromas and flavors. Clear copper pour with moderate off-whtie head. The nose is filled with grapefruit and floral aromas nicely mixed. The malts are a bit subdued in the aroma, but certainly show themselves in the flavor in the form of sweet caramel. The hops evoke flavors of grapefruit, pine. The English floral hops were nicely blended so as not to overpower with a perfumey taste. The body is medium to thick with a sticky, dry finish. Moderate bitterness in the aftertaste. Quite enjoyable.

A fairly creamy, full-bodied IPA - with a nice fruity malt backbone, and character-buildy woody notes - hops are quite present, but not overpowering - I’m feeling those cascades, but my distaste for British hops is keeping me from enjoying this as much as I could (at least they didn’t use fuggles).

2006 bottle from StewardofGondor, consumed on 4/18/06
Deep, burnished copper-amber, with a touch of light auburn. Medium-sized bubbles rise methodically to form an off-white head that is mostly well-retained with light lacing.
At first, a spicy, subtle nose of dusty, peppery, cannabis-like EKGs. Almost a chinook-like spiciness as well, though not as strong as that would be. Pure citrus is lightly apparent as well, a fresh cascade-like crispness of oranges. Malts are fairly dry and kept behind the hops, allowing only a light graham cracker note and some creamy caramel through. Bit of dry toastiness. Fairly weak in strength, even when warm, is the biggest drawback.
Light herbal hops and dusty, peppery hay notes as well, with pale malts and almost a munich-like sourness (very short). Everything is quite attenuated. Lean caramel, mostly touches of sourdough and lemon-orange as the flavor progresses. Almost light on hops but the dry, medium body helps mitigate that, somewhat. Round mouthfeel actually seems to hinder the crispness of the presentation, but taken as more of an English IPA, it works. Not overdone, though that might be a large understatement, but it depends what you’re looking for. No alcohol, medium light bitterness from hops.

Pours a dark amber color with a thin off-white head and a fair amount of lacing. Nicely hoppy aroma with some citrus and a faint nutty smell occasionally. Medium-bodied and not quite as hoppy as expected. Still it is very well-rounded with roasted malt offsetting the hops bite. There is also a bit of pine and nuts in the flavor. The finish is fairly bitter with hints of sweet malt and caramel. Not as bold as some IPAs but it is very refreshing and easy to drink. One of New Glarus’ best.

Bottle: Poured a light brown colored ale with a nice big head with better then average retention. You can easily feel the bitterness in the aroma. Taste is as expected, i.e. quite bitter with a side of roasted malt and subtle floral notes. I would put this one on a par with Victory Hop Devil as one of the great IPA out there.

Thanks to MrFacto for this fine IPA! Pours a deep amber with a thick creamy head of off white that sticks to the glass. Delicate Cascades aroma. The flavor is just to the bitter side, but not too far away is the malt to back that up. Good body and a nice bitter finish.

Bottle Pours a crystal clear mahogany with a good off white head that leaves thick stubborn lacing. Aroma is of hops of course, pine and malt. Straight forward here. Flavor is interestingly woody. Like a popsicle stick. Hops are there too but fairly mils. Feel is nice and rich, soft carbonation and the trailer is an easy hop bite. Well, maybe just a nibble.

Woah- a unique IPA. This smells like cocoa puffs out of the bottle, very unusual for an IPA. Bitter hops are notable but they are of the earthy variety rather than pine/grapefruit. The body is clear dark orange/red with a thin off-white head. The body continues with the toasty biscuit flavors, indeed a hint of caramel, and not-so-intense bitter, earthy hops. This beer is hurt a bit by its watery body, yet its subtlety is one of its strengths.

The aroma is lovely hoppy, grassy, and oily. The color is deep amber and it has a dense beige head. The flavor is sweet malty and lovely hoppy, grassy, and fruity. It ends on a good bitterness that turns dry and woody. A good IPA.

Bottled. If they wanna call it a "Wisconsin IPA," it's a pretty good way to make their case. Bottle pours with a big head over a just a bit darker brown than a pale ale color. Good aroma, smells like the point when you add hops to your homebrew boil. Hop taste is nice and spicy, not overly bitter or fruity. Very well balanced by a warm, slightly nutty malt flavor. Leaves me wanting more... oh, look! I have five left!
Second bottle seems to have improved in two months. Hops smell more apparent, like the smell you get when boiling your own IPA. Worth rating a notch higher!
