We’re totally Frucht around here. In fact, we may just be filled to the brim, with excitement, that is. Our threshold is 250 BBLs, to be more precise. That’s the total capacity of each oak foeder at Bruery Terreux. One is dedicated exclusively to Frucht, our series of fruited Berliner Weisse-style beers. Known for a tart flavor profile and traditionally low ABV, our German-style wheat beer gains even more funky notes and natural earthy-woodiness from its fermentation in the large oak foeder vessel. Each installment in the series will feature a new fruit, or Frucht, if we’re Sprechen sie Deutsch.

This installment has apricots added, which escalates the juicy, racy and palate-cleansing prowess of the base beer. Prost!

Bottle. Pours pretty clear golden, medium white head, good residual and lacing. Aroma is stone fruit, lemon, skins. Flavor is fully tart, light apricots, lemons, heavy tartness. Medium body, low carbonation. Peeling the enamel off my teeth.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/21/2016. Pours lightly hazy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour apricot, peach, lemon, pineapple, green apple, white wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, leather, musty funk, light white vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, apricots, oak, and light-moderate pale malt notes with great strength. Taste of big sour apricot, peach, lemon, pineapple, green apple, white wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, leather, musty funk, light white vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Large amount of puckering fruity/acidic sourness and light yeast/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour apricot, peach, lemon, pineapple, green apple, white wine, oak, hay, straw, leather, musty funk, white vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, apricots, oak, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a solid malt/fruit/sourness balance, and minimal acidic astringency after the finish. Very dry from sourness. Medium carbonation and light body; with a very acidic and lightly tannic/grainy mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.4%. Overall this is an excellent Berliner weisse. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, apricots, oak, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink; despite strong acidity and sourness. A very enjoyable offering.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is rather apricot forward with a nice juiciness and a lighter skin and fruit flesh character. Light citrus and pineapple notes with a hint of wheat. Really dominated by fresh apricot notes. Pours a hazy, golden orange with a medium sized, thick, white head that recedes very quickly to a thin film that lingers for a bit on the edges. No lacing or legs. Flavor is fairly tart, but not too sharp. Light citrus notes with a hint of pineapple. Light wheat notes. Moderately strong apricot character with some juiciness as well as some skin and flesh. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a very nice berliner. This one is much better than the passion fruit. Great fruit notes with an acidity that isn’t as sharp. Not as fruity as Apricot Bu, but I think that may be a good thing.

750 ml bottle. The beer is a light yellow gold. Somewhat hazy. Small white head that dissipates quickly, leaving nothing behind. The aroma is full of juicy apricot flavor. Sweet and sour stone fruit. Quite nice. Underripe apricots in the taste. Pretty big lactic acid hit, but the beer maintains enough juicy fruit flavor to make it work. Nice mix of yogurt sourness and fruit. Light body with a touch of creaminess. The beer could use more delicacy but I like it more than expected.
