beautiful appearance of mahogany colour and creamy beige-ish head; aroma of spicy alcohol, roasted sugar/malt, woody notes, dried fruits (raisin) and some vanilla; taste of roasted maltyness, some woody notes, hints of vanilla, maybe cognac and spicy alcoholic aftertaste; I’m not sure that the barrel aging added anything positive to the original version...anyway, it’s not bad

750 mL bottle poured and shared. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a disappearing head. Definitely the most unique, memorable scotch ale I can think of. Hides the double digit abv well. Sweet aroma with some dark fruit. Caramel flavor with light fruit, and a big sweetness. Overall an enjoyable beer.

On tap at PIB 2015, pours a dark red with a small beige head. Aroma brings out the cognac and some perfume upfront, followed by dark dried fruits. Flavour is along the same lines, with cognac, dark dried fruits, and perfume. Really well-executed on the barrel aging. Very good.

Bottle. Almost clear deep brown liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of pears, toffee, sweet malt, cognac, caramel, wood and light booze. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of toffee, raw sugar, wood and booze. Medium to full bodied with medium carbonation. Ok.

750. thanks Adrien. murky burnt orange red pour. not much of a head. Smells nice. Ultra sweet, lots of cognac, a lot of melon, cotton candy and cheap candies. Thick, dense, nice mouthfeel. very sweet, lots of tropical fruits, not really a scotch ale anymore. interesting beer.

750 ml bottle, deep ruby type color with no head. Aroma of sweet notes of cognac, light raisins, mild toffee. Malt heavy as expected.m
The flavor is dark fruits, caramel, toffee and the weakest trace of cognac. Real weak. Mild carbonation should help the brew overall but it kind of doesn’t. Body medium but toward the light side. Kind of falls flat overall.

Thick, collapsing beige head over deep mahogany beer. Rather intense vinous/brandy nose; some roasted malts, rather sweetish. Aroma really as from old red wine. Sourish-roasted flavour. Neither dominant, but instead of balance, rather clashing. Finish is stoutlike roasted. Well bodied, quite slick to oily. Long lasting roasted bitterness; good carbonation. If the taste would have followed the aromas, this would have been a true winner.

A dark brown beer with a quite big and beige head. Aroma has dark fruits, prunes and some raisins, sweet bananas and red berries, notes of vanilla. Taste has dried fruits, some berries, barrel and herbs, hint of vanilla. Only medium bodied, the body should have more strenght. A complex as also the normal version, but the barrel aging hasn’t given anything added values.
