This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum.

22oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Ruddy reddish brown pour with HUGE off white head that took several minutes to dissipate. Big chewy juicy hoppy nose with a slightly lesser but still very powerful bready caramel malt aroma. From the first sip, this is a classic example of a beer that is nice and fun in the beginning and becomes a chore by the end. Flavors are nice, but too much overall, and the balance is off which by the time that this ended was cloying and annoying. Still a nice one, but next time, I’ll limit it to one 12oz bottle.

355 ml bottle, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.8%, OG 1072, IBU 54.2. Red (or reddish brown) colour, moderate off-white head. Pleasant fruity (berries, dark dried fruits) and malty aroma with some caramel notes. The flavour is distinctly malty, again with some caramel notes, without being overly sweet. Fruity and resinous hops with a firm bitterness in the finish.

0.355l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. This is a light blurry deep bronze-amber colored beer with a lacing quickly sidesticking off-white top. A bit sugary sweet on the aroma with hops, some fruity stock, melon and a leathery hint. Smells quite alright this. It's quite average on the carbonation with a oily mouthfeel. Light sticky, loads of fruits and caramel. Also some traces of alcohol and melon zest. Quite a tasty little one this, but again my experiences with Lagunitas is that it lacks a bit of freshness. Could be the fact that this is not a fresh bottle... 05.01.2012

12oz bottle from JB’s
Appearance: Pours reddish amber with a small beige head and spotty lacing
Aroma: Huge pine and caramel
Taste: Sweet caramel, grapefruit and bitter pine
This went from OK (cold) to very sweet (medium temp) to huge bitter hops (warm).

Bottle from Yamaichi. Rich, malty nose: caramel, chocolate, raisins, good hops too, earthy and peppery. bright deep red with a low, lacy head. Malty, sweet, chocolate and caramel with big hop bitterness behind it. Full, silky body. Very nice. Lots of dried fruits, some cherry. Very bitter finish.

354 ml. (12 fl. oz) bottle poured in to a snifter. Deep copper colour with a creamy, white head. Malty aroma with caramel, bread, chocolate and citrus hops, some exotic fruit. Taste is sweet. Full body with a creamy texture. Long lasting finish with heavy malts and citrus hops. Rather good...

Sample poured from a bottle. This beer adds a smooth, citrus, sweet twist to that distinctive Lagunitas hoppy/malty taste. Very enjoyable.

Tap at Lagunitas. It pours clear orangey-amber, with a small white head. The nose is spice, leather, pine, wood varnish and leaf. The taste is pine, resin, hay, grass, leaf, spice, fruitiness and wood polish, with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Decent, but not great.

Purchased at Armanetti’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a Sunday while making Seitan preparing for the forthcoming week. Appearance is a vibrant red with amber hues and a thin, frothy white head. Aroma is very hoppy, bit of spice, bit of fruit as well, seeing some people state strawberries and I agree with that. Taste is potent, bitter, slightly sweet, and very good. The dominating ingredient is hops for sure, very succinct citrus notes, medium body and carbonation. Really impressed by this one, good work Lagunitas!

12oz bottle courtesy of Anndiesel. Glowing amber-toffee color, steady off-white head...very attractive. Vanilla tinged fruity amber malt aroma, not overbearing, but present. This is really quite a solid offering, smooth caramel malt, clean filtered body, steady bitter piny hop balance, smooth sweet finish. Really comes together well. Bold, but well balanced. Great beer.
