Porter was the great London beer style of the 18th and 19th centuries, when the city was revered as both the brewing capital and trading hub of the world. Named after the legions of porters in her docks, streets and markets who drank this powerful beer to slake their thirst, Meantime London Porter is a classic interpretation of this complex dark beer style.

Wonderful with mature cheese, beef, lamb, or as traditionally served, with oysters.

75 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBWG 2014. Courtesy of & thx! to JefVerstraete. About 2 years old. Pours a red hued, dark brown, small head. Smells rather sweet, roasted malts, light smoke, bitter coffee grounds. Taste is full of smoke, bitter herbs, touch tangy, roasted malts, leaves, bitter, touch bitter coffee grounds. Touch lighter body, bit oily. Not really inline with my personal preferences, the bitter roast & smoke isn’t really off-set by anything and didn’t really work for me flavour-wise.

18/I/14 - 75cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ RBBWG III, my place - BB: 28/II/2014 (2014-91) Thanks to JefVerstraete for sharing the bottle!

Clear brown beer, aery irregular beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: grains, hay, cow fodder, some chocolate, mocha, coffee. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: malty, grains, mocha, toast, little bitter, cow fodder. Aftertaste: burnt toast, pretty hoppy, grains, cow fodder. Very Anglo-German profile, but not too bad.

0,75L bottle, BB 05.2014. Pours dark brown with ruby highlights and lighter tan head. The head stays. Aroma of malt, roast, hints of chocolate. Taste follows the nose: strong black malt, roasty, little chocolate. Lively carbonation. Overall: really nice porter, but could use little “tuning” to be really great.

Bottle split at JF’s, thanks to Tony for bringing this catch up rate, 23/08/13. Very dark mahogony brown with a good sized frothy light tan head. Nose is roast malt, dark toffee, light cocoa, biscuit, hint of berry fruit. Taste comprises dark toffee, touch of chocolate, roast malt, brown sugars, doesn’t quite match up to the nose. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry roasted finale. Ok porter.

God lukt av kaffe, sjokolade, lakris og karamell. Dyp sort farge. Lite skum. Preget smak av kaffe med en ettersmak av karamell.
