A black IPA with a light creamy tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts with hints of gooseberry. It is hopped with Nelson Sauvin, coffee notes round out the beer to give some great flavours. More of a west of Scotland balance to the IPA than a West Coast USA balance, and we think it works really well.

Sanda gets its name from the Sanda lighthouse, located off the southern tip of the Mull of Kintyre in southwestern Scotland.

Bottle pour at Borefts ’13, 27/09/13. Very dark mahogony brown to light black with a thin light tan covering. Nose is light tropicals, hint of pine, touch grapefruit, earthy hops. Taste comprises light pine needles, hops, tropical fruit medley, light roast, hint of cocoa powder. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, light bitterness in the finish. Ok CDA far from top draw however!

Tap @ Borefts ’13. Thought it was Sandra. Almost black colour with no head. Smells roasty, coffee and chocolate, but also fresh and hoppy. Tastes hoppy, bitter and slightly roasty. Thin body, low to medium carbo. Not the best example of a black IPA, but certainly not the worst also.

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Earthy, slightly roasty, dark malty aroma, hints of coffee, grassy hop with hints of wet hay; clammy and musty like waking up the third rainy day in a row camping at a forest glade, opening the tent and remaining disappointed for the smell of wet moss, mushrooms, wood. Taste is roasty dark malty, hints of coffee, some bitter hop; again clammy and musty like Dostoevsky’s ’Notes from underground’. A complete miss.

Bottled. Near black, minimal head. Rich black currant aroma. Mid dry with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Plenty of black currant and salty licorice. Really bitter finish. Almost manages to combine the depth of the more traditional Fyne beers with the modern style extrovert hops.

330ml bottle. Pours a black-dark brown colour, foam tan head leaving some lacing and aroma of earthy roast malt & hoppy grapefruit citrus. Taste is smokey roasted malt with chocolate notes and some citrusy & pine bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, light to medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry bitter roast coffee finish. Quite drinkable black IPA.
