De Koninck Winter is a stronger variation on the 'Bolleke'. It contains more dark and roasted malts (more plato's), also giving it a higher percentage of alcohol.

750 corked & caged bottle from Sonoma Wine Exchange. BB 06.09.08 Aromas of medium dark plum and caramel. Brilliant garnet copper color with tiny bubbles and a beige head. Almost medium body with slightly fizzy carbonation. Flavor is much like an amber - lightly sweet, lightly roasted caramel. Not a great deal of bitter, but arguably enough. The bitter tends to accumulate so the brew tastes better with time. Something of a light, clean and refreshing winter ale.

Draught at De Wildeman, Amsterdam - at a declared ABV of 7.5%. Deep reddish brown with a cream head, served in a De Koninck chalice glass; fruity aroma; soft and fruity, lively in the mouth - like a gron-up version of vimto; the finish is dry and warming with a slight spiceyness.

330 ml bottle. Dark red/brown body with a beige head. Aroma is sweet malty, spicy and fruity. Flavor is caramel malt, dry fruit, spicy yeast and some bitterness. This is much like a maltier, sweetier and bitter version of the regular De Konick. Flavorful and easy drinkable.

Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a ruby-chestnut color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma was yeasty, bready and lightly fruity. The flavor was yeasty, bready and had hints of caramel and ripe fruits. Really not all that different from their regular beer.

Medium beige head. Deep dark body. Light acidic spicy aroma with touches of licorice. Deep acidic raspberry taste, somewhat watery. Dry, raspberry aftertaste with metallic notes lingering. ot bad, and quite drinkable, but nothing too special. Definitely not a winter warmer by Belgian standards. (0.33l draft.)
