De Koninck Winter is a stronger variation on the 'Bolleke'. It contains more dark and roasted malts (more plato's), also giving it a higher percentage of alcohol.

75 cL bottle. Pours with whith and short-living head. Clear smell of of "De Koninck"-hops. Elements of yeast too. Taste is classical de Koninck with hops and malt. On top of this is a sweet taste of cinnamon together with vinous fruity/fig-like taste. Almost creamy texture but still light bodied. I’m not much of a De Koninck fan, this is better than their other beers, but still not amongst the best Belgian seasonal ales.

Bottle: Clear, amber coloured, small stable foam; sweetish dark-malty nose with a touch of a vinous fruitiness and questionable tinge of cinnamon or coriander (?); moderate bitter-sweetish flavour, rather light bodied for a beer of 6.5% ABV; fruity and sweet-malty finish with a little lingering bitterness. O.K., no earthquake.......

Bottle. Amerish chestnut, low creamy head. Light herbal, orange aroma. Relatively light body. Citric fruit, a bit nut, minerally yeast. Flatish metallic finish. Not amazingly exiting.

On tap at Paters Vaetje, Antwerp. Reddy/brown beer with beige head. Served a mite bit too cold. Malty red fruit aroma, some hop. Sweetish toffee in mouth, some yeast on aroma and finish. Drying hop finish. First drink I had after driving round Antwerp for ages looking for my hotel.

Bottle. Best before 10/12/04 - so over a year past that. Dark ruby amber with a nice light beige head. Spicey sweet malt aroma. Clean malt flavor with light spice and some figs - but overall nothing complex and fairly straight forward. Medium-light body.

Bottle. Spicy aroma - nutmeg, clove with plum/raisin. Dark brown color with small head. Lighter sweet spiced plum flavor - more fruitiness than spice - opposite of what the aroma would lead you to believe. Nice and smooth - quite enjoyable.
