Sour blonde ale aged in oak barrels with raspberries

Paying homage to the classic Framboise style, this blended sour blonde ale's clean, bubbly characteristics pair brightly with notes of fruity tartness thanks to perfectly-ripened raspberries. Matured in oak barrels, the deliciousness of simplicity shines through Frambulous.

750 ml bottle, via dbarnold, 1/19/17. Pours clear pink-orange, with a small, fizzy head. Tart, fruity, and funky. A good bit of oak as well. Drinks very tart as well. Oak and funk notes underneath. For me, this lacks just a little the excellence of some of their best fruited sours, but it is still a really solid beer.

Bottle thanks to Will. Pours a cloudy pink with small off white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong raspberry, sweet cherry, funk, wood. Thin body, berry, yogurt, lacto, wood, nice tartness, very good.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/28/2016. Pours hazy deep orange/pinkish color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big sour raspberry, cranberry, cherry, lemon, green apple, fruit skin/seeds, hay, straw, leather, musty funk, oak, pepper, light red wine vinegar/vanilla, wheat, cracker, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, raspberries, oak barrel, and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour raspberry, cranberry, cherry, lemon, green apple, fruit skin/seeds, hay, straw, leather, musty funk, oak, pepper, light red wine vinegar/vanilla, wheat, cracker, and yeast/oak earthiness. Large amount of nearly puckering fruity/acidic sourness and light yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour raspberry, cranberry, cherry, lemon, green apple, fruit skin/seeds, hay, straw, leather, musty funk, oak, pepper, light red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, raspberries, oak barrel, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a nice malt/sourness balance, and no astringent sour flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from acidity/sourness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, acidic/tannic, and lightly creamy/grainy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.3%. Overall this is an outstanding fruited sour ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, raspberries, oak barrel, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, despite the big sourness and acidity. A highly enjoyable offering.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma has a moderately strong raspberry note with some tropical fruit and citrus notes. Slightly jammy, but there is also some see and leafy notes as well. Light earthy, herbal notes. Hints of malt and oak. Pours a hazy, dull, red with some orange hues and a medium large, thick, slightly pink head that exhibits decent retention as it slowly recedes. No lacing or legs. Flavor is moderately acidic with a light sharpness to it. Light malt notes with some light oak character as well. Quite a bit of raspberry character, but more like fresh fruit with only a slight jamminess. Some light phenolic notes of seeds and leaves. Some pineapple and citrus notes with a light, earthy funk. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice fruited sour from the Bruery. Acidity isn’t sharp and there is some decent complexity from the fruit. Malt and yeast profile also adds some good character to the beer.

Bottle from the Bruery. Pours lightly hazy rose, medium pink head, dissipates to pretty much nothing. Aroma is fresh raspberries, stems and skins, oak and a lighlty cheesy funk. Flavor is medium tart, fruity, light funk, oak tannins, stems. Medium light body. Pretty solid sour beer, with a fruity presence but not overpowering.
