Oats are used in the grist of this beer to give body and smoothness, enhancing the roasted barley, giving it complex flavours reminiscent of dark chocolate and coffee.

This is balanced by a fresh hop bitterness and dry silky finish.

Deep brown pour with a fizzy tan head. Very thin watery body with harsh carbonation. Chocolate, light roasted malt, some molasses in aroma. Similar flavor. The body is way too thin to support this brew. Ok at best.

Cask at the brewpub. Clear black coloured pour with reddy hues and a lasting creamy tan head. Aroma is milky roast, mineral, damp campfire, earthy. Flavour is composed of black roast, burnt toast, earthy mineral, twig Palate is light and smooth, lowish carbonation. Tangy bitter roast I. The finish.

On cask at Black Bull Coniston - Jet black body, thin tan head. Nose is roasted grain, bit of porridge, hoppiness there too. Taste is similar, nice burnt bitter finish. Not bad.

Bottle from Booths, Settle. Black, no head. Quite a light tasting stout with a medium body, it does however have some roasted malt evident.
