Oats are used in the grist of this beer to give body and smoothness, enhancing the roasted barley, giving it complex flavours reminiscent of dark chocolate and coffee.
This is balanced by a fresh hop bitterness and dry silky finish.

On cask at the Black Bull. Appearance - opaque black with a fawn head. Nose - dark chocolate and cream. Definitely nutty too. Perhaps coffee at a push. Taste - more dark chocolate and nuts. Maybe honeycomb too so getting into a Crunchie Bar experience too. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - yep flavoursome stout.

Nose is cola, blackberry, slight roast, very sweet. Taste is very sweet; blackberry, cherry, cola, leading to roast malt notes with a hint of coco. Mouthfeel is very smooth. A good beer which has surprising complexity for the style.

Bottle. Pours clear dark ruby black with a small tan head that dissipates slowly and laces pretty well. Aroma is roast, cocoa, cardboard. Flavor is pretty decent actually, light plus sweet with notes of dark cocoa, roasted malts, perhaps coffee, quite light bitterness on the back end. Medium body, well carbonated. This ainโt bad for a sub 5% beer.

Tap at RJ. Aroma dark fruits, berries, light sourish soapy, very light chocolate. Thick stable beige head. Dark clear ruby-brown colour. Taste is rather sweet, chocolate and pretty strong fruitiness. Some background bitterness, but what ruins it for me is moderately strong sour off-flavour. Could it be too much roasted malt too early in the mash? Not sure, but the result is average at best.
