12 fl oz bottle. Black-brown colour, big foamy ran head leaving lacing and aroma of roast malt, coffee, citrus pine resin hop. Taste is a nice balance of roasted malt and fruity citrus hoppy bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry roasted bitter finish. Very drinkable black IPA.

Bottle at home, from Bottledog - Grays Inn Road, 07/05/14. Have had this a few times on visits to the United Rates in years gone by, time to catch up with a rating! Black with a well appointed frothy light tan head of bubbles - pretty pleasing on the eye! Nose is bitter roast, cocoa powder, mineral notes, tropicana, earthy hops. Taste comprise bitter grapefruit, dankish hop tones, roasty notes, jammy berry fruit, light smoke, pine resin. Medium bodied, fine carbontion, semi drying close peppered with hop bitterness. Solid enough CDA - way more drinkable than the 1.5 version which I had a couple of weeks back.

Keg at Brewdog Shepard’s bush. Aroma is nutty praline choc with a hint of smoked malt. Some earthy piney c hop in the nose as well, something like Chinook. Clearish chestnut brown in colour with a lasting tan head. Palate is full and smooth with creamy carbonation. Flavour is malt forward for a black IPA. Roast malt with a hint of smoke and rich dark choc in the finish. Nice citrus pine hop comes through in the finish. Very clean american yeast ferment. Very nice malt forward black IPA.

Keg at BD Sheps Bush. It pours black with a thick light tan head. The nose is rich, roasty, chocolate, pine, resin charred earth and dirt. The taste is rich, roasty, earth, charcoal, raw bitterness, varnish, resin, hop astringency, pepper, aniseed, toast and grapefruit rind with a bitter roasted finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Bitterness keeps on lingering so much so, that it may haunt your dreams.... Not the smoothest bipa out there, but not exactly lacking in flavour!

From a bottle, deep black stout color. Smell is volatile Hoppy thing with slightly burned hints. Big creamy bitter black IPA impact onthe buds, wew. Pretty nice label I see. Yes, some co2 makes this barely palatable but for the most part this is a mouth coating kick in the back of the throat nasty medicianl session. Long long lasting finish that just wont quit. Will not be able to taste another beer for at least a day. Just like IPA my buds will never mature enough to appreciate this black happy BS. Not impressed.

Heavy roast and pine aroma with modest chocolate. Clear black with than head. Toast is dominated by roast with moderate high bitterness and a semi-dry finish. The hops were not present in the flavor very much for a Cascadian.

Sample at the Ale Wine & Spirits beer tasting on 11/07/2013. The beer pours a dark brown color with a medium foamy tan head that dissipates steadily. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of earthy hops, toasted malt and a bit of fruit. The finish is moderately bitter with a piney and earthy aftertaste. Decent, but I enjoyed the 1.5 version more.

Dark brown, nearly black pour - fairly impressive lace - quite a bit of roast, cocoa and espresso in the nose, with moderate woody and citric hop character - a nice balance between the two - medium body, low carbonation - flavor is quite sweet, but with strong notes of char and woody, fairly bitter hop flavor - a bit sweet for me, but decent.
