Flemish etiquette implores you to wait and see if your host offers a toast before sipping your drink. Where Belgian Blonde Ale is concerned, pFriem sees things differently. Waiting to taste a perfect harmony of strength and elegance, while sniffing its pear and clove bouquet is like torture. Clean maltiness, invigorating effervescence and just enough bitterness wait for no one.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a yellow color with a large white head. A big fruity banana nose, sugary. The flavor is husky malts, banana, sugary candied citrus. Quite nice. Smooth.

375mL cork&cage bottle poured into old school Hoegaarden tulip glass. Empty spot on the "bottled on" space. But this seems to be the most recent batch to come to Seattle, and likely just a recent release. Pours thick golden, can’t see through it. Aroma is thick Belgian pie crust, not sweet but baked bread malts. A little pear-like esters. Flavor is flip flopped with a sharper pear ester character followed by lighter doughiness. A lighter mouthfeel than the aroma indicates. Though its still a thicker, heavier beer. That is one of the aspects that throw me off. Its a 7.5 abv beer that is thicker, heftier like a 9ish. I either want it pumped up a little more or more spritzy and lighter with a spicy/peppery character. Though, I still generally enjoy this beer.

Bottle thanks to Chow. Pours a hazy yellow gold with medium frothy white head that lasts. The aroma is yeast, funk, bubblegum. Medium mouth, bubblegum, pure sugar, yeast, light fruity finish, good.

12.7 oz corked and caged bottle. Bottled in July. Aroma is lemony, dusty, doughy, apple, peppery. Pours cloudy pale yellow with a collapsing white head that laces a little. Taste is dry, faint tartness; flavors of Belgian yeast, apples, clove. Foamy mouthfeel. Not bad, but probably the least impressive beer I’ve had from this brewery.

Very pale, clear, has a light pear and ester nose with a touch of gum, has a dry finish with some pale malt sweetness, a dash of alcohol and some more of those phenols.
