Cantillon Crianza Helena is a gueuze bottled in 2008. It is a blend of 40 month lambic from a new cognac barrel, 30 month lambic from a bordeaux barrel (for sweetness), and a 15 month young lambic. It is labeled as 5% ABV.
This gueuze was bottled on behalf of the owners of De Heeren van Liedekercke to mark the occasion of the birth of their daughter. Both 37,5cl and 75cl bottles were available for on-site consumption at the restaurant and 75cl bottles were also available for takeaway. Cantillon provided De Heeren van Liedekercke with unlabeled bottles; the label design and it's application was performed later.

(Bottle, 0.375 l, at De Heeren van Liedekercke) The beer poured golden and almost clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had sourness, wood, vanilla and cognac. Palate was medium bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were sourness, fruitiness, wood, vanilla, grapefruit and mildly bitterenss. Aftertaste was sour and bitter. The barrel flavours and scents were nicely in the background but they still blended with the gueuze flavours pleasantly. Very good.

Big thanks to Dan for sharing this bottle! Poured a cloudy golden orange with no head whatsoever. Aroma was full of sour fruits with a bit of a wine note as well as funk and blue cheese coming through. Flavor had a great sour fruit note with a hint of blue cheese. A vinegar and wine note come out in the finish making it a bit dry.

Sampled at DC Epic Sour Tasting 2010. Rating #1300! Pours a lightly hazy, deep gold with a frothy white head. Nose of perfume, lemons, grapefruit, hay, a little medicinal, herbal, light barnyard. Flavor is tart, herbal, floral, white pepper, lemon rind, celery, grass. Full bodied, tart without being acidic. Really nice.

750 ml bottle at DC Epic Sour Tasting 2010, courtesy of ygtbsm94 - thank you sir! Hazy golden color, white head, solid lacing. Aroma of apricot, peach, vanilla, sour dust. Taste is very sour, very dry, very dusty, very balanced, very citrusy, very nice. It has everything I like in a geuze, and I couldn’t ask for more.

Bottle. Pours golden/orange, small white head. Aroma has got some sourness, of course. But there is more to it. Some earthy hops and woodiness aswell. The flavor is very complex. Sour at first, then fruity and a lot of cognac in the very long aftertaste. Dry with a vinous bitterness.

Bottle: Poured a slightly hazy golden color lambic with a huge foamy head with good retention and some great lacing. Aroma consists of sour notes with some light funk and some notes of oak and acidity are also clearly detectable. Taste is more similar to the regular lambic then I would have expected with the classic Cantillon acidity and the deep sour notes. I honestly can’t say I really tasted the cognac or Bordeaux barrel. Still very much enjoyable though not as special as I was expecting.

Bottle, 75cl, courtesy of fonefan. It’s a hazy, orange-golden beer with some off-white to beige bubbles. Cellar, wheat, fruits, a good dash of lemon, and barnyard on the nose. Oak too? Smooth, dry, well-carbonated and astringent with flavors of lemon and horseblanket. Really teethcleansing and lasting. Bone dry and wonderfully palatesmashing. 091024

Bottle shared at a tasting. Hazy golden-orange color. Acidic aroma of vinegar, barnyard, leathery notes, cobwebs and a bit of lemon. Sour flavor with citric notes, earth, oak, vanilla hints, green apples and some more fruit. Medium-bodied with a smooth mouthfeel.
