Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 11/14/12

Aroma: The nose is malty, with some lightly buttered popcorn, bread and grains
Appearance: This one pours a clear golden color with a small, fizzy white head and no lace
Flavor: The taste is much like the nose, lots of malts, popcorn and bread, and a later hop presence
Palate: The body is fairly light, drinks pretty nicely for the style, not really watery, and with a fizzy carbonation
Overall Impression: This one exceeded my expectations. It's a little odd, but it works pretty well. It has a decent flavor, not a great flavor, but a decent one. The body hold up well for the style too, and it keeps from being watery and dull like so many American lagers. This isn't a world beater, but it's a solid beer.

Pour is a clear yellow with a small white head. Aroma is musty grain with some clean grain. Flavor is very grainy with a minor hop. Finish is watery but none of that wet paper bag thing that lagers can give off. Decent grainy flavor. Like most "craft" lagers this has way more body than any BMC lager.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear light gold with about 3 fingers of white head. Aroma is mostly grain and corn with a hint of caramel, herbs and citrus. Taste is light bitter. Again, mostly grain and corn with a hint of skunk but also a little citrus and herbal hops in there. Light bodied with a thin texture. Lively carbonation and a longer than expected finish. Overall, not bad. Nothing to seek out but very drinkable.

Bottle in NYC. Pours clear, bright gold with a weak, white foam head. Lightly toasted pale malts in the nose, some faint straw and cereal. Light sweet flavor, all pale malts, biscuits, cereal, light citrus notes, light bitter straw. Light bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Crisp and clean on the finish, some cereal, subtle grass and citrus, more biscuits and hay. Quite an outstanding pale lager. Very drinkable, nicely balanced.

12 ounce bottle from a Kroger. Pours a crystal clear golden color with a large fizzy white head. Average head retention. Skunky aroma despite the brown bottle, along with notes of faint malts. The taste is pale malts, corn, tinny hops. Medium bodied. Meh.

12 oz bottle. Smells cleaner than most macros. Doesn’t have that cheap adjunct odor. Smells a little fruity. Pours golden with nice lacing. Tastes pretty bland, but much better than any macro I’ve had. Somewhat creamy mouthfeel. In short, tastes better than a Bud or Coors, but this is no masterpiece.

A big special thank you goes out to riversideAK for this not so local beer. pours pale yellow like any other ubiquitous pale yellow american beer. Bottle is nicely embossed, its not yer typical brown bottle with a twist off cap. Decently clean aroma, nothing offensive. On the taste buds it comes across gentle but with a hop background that makes you think this is a heavy APA or possibly even a mild IPA at first, quite interesting. I would say this possibly has more floral hops flavor in it than any other pale lager I have ever tasted. After the initial impact tho, you fade back into mild APA flavors or even toward the end of the session, you are pretty sure it’s a lager. Not bad but perhaps more than I care for in a lager and this is what probably gets it such a high, per se, percentile when compared to other pale lagers. Certainly a lager with personality. If you like APA or IPA but despise pale lagers, you should give this a try, I think you may be pleasantly surprised. Finish is pale lager but overall, this is not your typical pale lager. Alex, I owe you one!

12oz bottle Pours out a clear yellow topped with a foam white head. Sad to say this Private Reserve should have been kept private. Tast of not much. Sorry this was not good at all. or maybe it is just the style I don’t like
