With a blend of two-row caramel malt and four types of domestic hops, Budweiser Black Crown is finished on a bed of Beechwood chips for a smooth, balanced taste. Incorporating the proprietary yeast directly descended from the original Budweiser yeast strain used by Adolphus Busch in 1876, Budweiser Black Crown retains the key characteristics of Budweiser with its clean taste and high drinkability. Featuring more body, color and hop character than the flagship lager, it also has a slightly higher alcohol content at 6% ABV.

bottle - Pours clear light amber and has a mild grainy malt aroma with a touch of caramel. The flavor is sweet and again grainy with a bit of caramel. It’s slightly toasty and quite mediocre. I had this side by side with Beck’s Sapphire because apparently I do not like myself. It could have been worse, I guess. I rate this slightly better than the Sapphire.

Can: Poured a light brown color lager with a medium head with limited retention and very subtle lacing. Aroma consists of light cereal with grainy caramel malt. Taste is also dominated by grainy cereal notes with light caramel adjunct notes. Body is thin with OK carbonation. Worst than I was expecting.

Bottle at home in Salisbury, CT - who knows where I got this. Pours crystal clear, dark gold, lightly effervescent with a moderate, foamy white head. Sugary bread, caramel and ripening fruits in the nose. Medium sweet flavor with candied fruits, orange, sugary bread, minimal bitterness, a bit of caramel. Medium bodied with average carbonation and lightly creamy texture. Sweet finish, somewhat one-dimensional, with further caramel, bready and sugary malts. Perhaps a touch syrupy at points. Honestly, though, this isn’t bad. It quite reminds me of a mild, German dunkel, or just a basic amber lager.

Bottle, 22oz. A clear, golden beer with a small, white head. The aroma is sweetish and lightly fruity, rather uninspired. The flavor pretty much the same, fruity and lightly sweetish, a faint bitterness chiming in. Short finish. Most definitely not worth a revisit. 130811

12-pack from the States purchased by my guitarist, Pete K. Pours a clean amber colour with a nice creamy, off-white head, that has decent retention and creamy lacing all-around. Sweet nose with caramel malts and very light hops. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. The taste has the caramel malts, but very watered-down and not really sweet. More on the chemical-side of things with whatever hops they use. Was better from the bottle, and real cold. Still, probably the best product with the Budweiser name on it.
