With a blend of two-row caramel malt and four types of domestic hops, Budweiser Black Crown is finished on a bed of Beechwood chips for a smooth, balanced taste. Incorporating the proprietary yeast directly descended from the original Budweiser yeast strain used by Adolphus Busch in 1876, Budweiser Black Crown retains the key characteristics of Budweiser with its clean taste and high drinkability. Featuring more body, color and hop character than the flagship lager, it also has a slightly higher alcohol content at 6% ABV.

From Bottle. Not offensive, but not much of anything really. Pretty much like slightly flavored water. If this replaced Budweiser, you could keep me from complaining as often as I do when I visit my uncultured beer friends. Don’t get me wrong, I’d still complain because there isn’t a lot of flavor, but the two I had eliminated the metallic off-taste I get from their "flagships."

12 oz bottle given to me by my son so I would tick it. Nose is sweet caramel, corn, and a very faint hint of a vanilla/bubblegum (maybe from Beechwood chips?) Clear yellow orange with a small pale yellow head. Flavor is a sweet corny pale lager note with a hint of skunkiness.

Voltage, Philadelphia bottle ($4): Pours orangish. Aroma is grain and something that almost resembles caramel malt. Taste is pretty minimal, but has a slightly sweet finish. In some ways, the less said about this beer the better. In any case, I would rather have this than Bud Heavy any day.

12 Fl Oz bottle: badged as 91406. Drank on 7 Feb 2013 in my hotel room (San Francisco). I quiet enjoyed this actually: lager based but with a bit of character. Golden body, but with a slightly darker hue than most lagers: same white head that refuses to hang around though. Not quite odourless but almost: some grainy and hop notes can just about be detected if you sniff hard enough. Crisp and refreshing with a corn bread and mild hop feel. Forget who brews it and the beers isn’t bad at all. It’s a lager with a bit of umph to it and should be marked accordingly.

Bottle. Amber beer with a cream head. Malt and caramel aroma. Malt and caramel flavor with light grain and low backing hops. Medium bodied. Grain and malt linger with light caramel and low backing hops.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark amber color with a medium sized creamy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was sour and tangy industrial lager with a yeasty undertone. The flavor was tangy sour industrial lager though with a more smoothly blended flavor and lacing the chemical presence found in many of the style. Short tangy finish. Medium body. Better than regular Budweiser but still not good.

4% version. Pours a nice clear golden color with a large white head. A light sweet grainy nose. A very smooth flavor of earthy grains, cola-like carbonation, light wood. I’d like to try the 6% version as well. Very clean and decent.
