It took 2 years of brewing, tasting and testing to come up with the final recipe for Sam Adams Light. We focused on brewing a flavorful, high quality beer with a light-bodied taste and fewer calories.
Sam Adams Light is a unique beer, it’s not a lighter version of our Boston Lager.
Sam Adams Light is the only light beer that uses no adjuncts and a traditional brewing process to ensure a balance of flavor and light-bodied taste.
No other domestic light beer uses only the four classic ingredients of beer: pure water, lager yeast, Noble hops and barley malt.
The quality ingredients that make up Sam Adams Light include two-row malt and some of the most expensive hops in the world, Spalt Spalter Noble hops.
At 128 calories, Sam Adams Light features a clean finish and no aftertaste.

Amber-gold with an orangish-beige head. Malty aroma and taste. It’s better than regular American lights.

draft - Many other reviews are spot on. For a light beer, this is quite good. Though good for a light beer isn’t saying much. At least it has a little hops and a halfway decent malt flavor. I’d pick it over a lot of regular pale lagers. It’s too thin and needs more flavor, but if you must drink a light beer, go for it.

Light beer in and of itself is an abomination. However within the subset of beer known as light this is the finest example I can imagine. I have been known to pour this for folks to try without telling them what it is. None would confuse this for a great beer but also none pegged it as a light beer. A light beer does not have this color, this body, and this semblance of beer taste. There are many full calorie beers that are far more heinous than Sam Adams Light. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a caramel color with a medium sized white head that fades quickly. The aroma is sour and nutty. The flavor is sour, tangy and has a light nutty undertone. There is little aftertaste.

12 oz bottle-pours a thin off white head that quickly reduces. Color is clear gold, appealing. Aroma-fresh grain, inviting. Taste a nice crisp slightly sweet flavor, but a bit short for what is rated as a better beer.

Bottled. Finally sampled this beer in an interesting circumstance: at our homebrew club’s homebrew competition, this was used as the "calibration beer," with the judges being told only that this was a Classic American Pilsener. They rated it an average of 31.7 out of 50; pretty high, methinks. Then again, our Best of Show was a CAP, too.
Frankly, I think they did judge a bit high. It had a pleasant pour, yes, and it had the same pilsener gold of the regular Sam. Taste had some good malt character, but then there was the same off-flavor I get with other Lights, an almost metallic tang that suggests some strange manufacturing process. It shouldn’t be in a Sam’s I know, but there it is, cutting out any hop profile. I guess this would rate higher if RB had it in a Light beer category, but there you are.

Light amber lager with a thin white head. Light sweet aroma with notes of corn. Thin bodied beer with no hops, light malt. Only redeeming feature is the colour.

Bottle Pours a clear light amber witha only a suggestion of a head, but some thin fine lacing. Aroma is slight hops and malt. Some notes of apricots maybe. Flavor is very pale papery flavore. Good call rick. Slightly lemon and hops. Very thin and watery. Flavor is not bad just weak. My first ever light beer.

Pours copper like its big brother. Little head and no real aroma. Flavor is light and watery. Hey its a light beer. They threw this in a Brewmaster pack so people would try it. Save this one and give it to company.

Not bad for a light beer... but not worth the $4.00 I paid for a bottle of it tonight (hey, it was either this or Miller products). The taste is the only thing that stood out, and I wouldn't say it's good, but it has something to it, where many light beers don't. I wouldn't drink another for $4.00, but gimme one for a buck when all you have are Miller products and you sold me.
