Seven is a nod to the great stouts brewed in 19th century London. Lots of roasted malt and grassy English hop character on the nose, followed by notes of bitter chocolate, toast, coffee, liquorice and dried fruit. Full bodied but dry, the powerful bitter finish just keeps going.

Bottle from Ales by Mail, drunk at home. Dark brown, opaque, with the tiniest ring of tan head. Gentle aroma of milk chocolate and robusta coffee. Sweet chocolatey taste with dogged bittering hop right at the end. Fruity bitterness in the long finish. More chocolate in the aftertaste with a hint of Marmite. Creamy full mouthfeel. Really well done, a hell of a strong stout.

Bottle picked up from the Red Squirrel Craft Beer shop/tap, Berkhamstead, Saturday 6th February 2016 Thick in the mouth, roasty, but not sweet roasty this is a tad ashy, a little smokey and also quite hoppy but not sweet, heavy or cloying. Some tart fruitiness engaging with the roasty elements, its good, really nice and good that it hasn’t gone down the big, slick, indulgent route, don’t get me wrong I like those types of beer as well but this is good for being a little different. Milk chocolately and fruity aroma, notes of red berries, raisin, plum, some roast. Taste is moderately bitter, roasty dark malty, notes of dark chocolate, some liquorice, subtle sweetness with a touch of treacle, dry hints of red berries and corresponding parings, a touch of plum; lasting bitter finish. Rich and complex, very intense - superb Stout.
