Black IPA. Awesome hops, wicked malts and some balls to the wall wizardry make this a dark beer light! Hopped with Simcoe, Chinook and Columbus.

Keg, can and bottle. Dark brown body with a beige head that holds well. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of blackcurrant, treacle, blueberry and meaty malts. Flavour of Black Jack sweets, Marmite, chocolate, flat Coca-Cola and plum. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Light fizz. A rich, complex black IPA - one of the best I’ve tasted. Cromarty are such an excellent, underrated brewery.

330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige to tan head. Roasty, chocolately dark malty and citrusy fruity, hoppy aroma, notes of dark chocolate and cocoa, orange and mandarine, a minimally grassy and leafy nuance. Taste is minimally bitter roasty dark malty and moderately bitter fruity hoppy, notes of cocoa and dark chocolate, orange and tangerine; minimally watery passages. Good!

Bottle from Craftissimo at home. Cola brown pour with slightly off white head. Aroma is an English black IPA - a root beer-like bark note, pine hops, coffee ground roasted malt. Taste is similar - bitter coffee with fresh piney hops, slightly astringent. Not bad at all but not the direction I prefer for black IPAs.

From the tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark brown, practically black with fine cappuccino foam. Aroma is roasted, resinous, herbaceous, a little licorice. Body is fairly dense, with good carbonation tickling the tongue. Taste is had some sweetness but most of all a marked bitterness, which is rather persistent.

Dark brown to black colored, creamy tan head with nice lacing and rather lasting. Aroma is of pellety hops, pine, citrus and some floral, some roasty and chocolate notes, medium+ hoppiness. Taste is medium sweet milky and dark chocolate and roasted malt, medium+ pine and citrus, floral hops, some harshness, medium+ bitterness with a dry finish, lasting roasty and hoppy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, oily pellety. Some harshness keeps it from being superb. (cask, Caffe Beermoth, Manchester)
