Wet-Hopped Ale

Each fall, our brewhouse looks more like a greenhouse as thousands of pounds of wet hop cones arrive within hours of being picked by some of our favorite local hop growers. Acting quickly, we then load up these wet hops into what will become Harvest Ale – an impossibly aromatic and bright IPA bursting with fresh pine, melon and citrus notes. Our ode to the beauty that is the wet, American hop.

Yellow-orange pour. Looks thin with just a few bubbles. Nice sweet tropical fruit hop nose. Bit oxidised, with beeswax and honey notes. Taste is bitter, clean slightly resinous. Linger is dry and greenish bitter.

Medium full body. Slightly sweet hops have dropped lots of honeydew and grapefruit. Not bad but not special.

Bottle from Total Wine & More, St Petersburg. Dark gold, a little bit hazy with almost no head or visible carbonation. Mango and orange aroma with a notable malt scent. A slight vegetal touch as well. Taste is clean and bitter with some resinous astringency, but not so bitter as to spoil the balance. Long bitter finish. Orange peel, a bit of lime and some resinous pine in the aftertaste. Tasty.

12 oz bottle poured, courtesy of Pruf. Thanks! A lighter golden put with a decent carb, active fizz head. Aroma is wet hops dominant. Quite aromatic. Flavor is rich caramel under juicy hops. Cream body, autumn feel. Slightly toasty. Delicious citra hop content. Very nice.

Bottle from West Side. Pours a deep gold to light copper with a finger of head. Juicy and bright citrus aromas. Good body but still fairly light. Highly drinkable. Resin, weed and grapefruit flavors. Bitter finish, spruce. None of those weird harsh notes that some wet-hopped ales get. Probably the best hoppy beer from founders.

Bottle. A- Juicy, pine, pineapple, orange, tropical citrus. A- Golden color, clear liquid, white head. T- Pine, bitter, juicy, citrus, orange. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- The deScription basically sums it up. Smells and tastes of very juicy tropical fruits with a bit of juicy pine. The more you drink the more it fades into a piney bitterness. Not too shabby at all.

12 oz bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Bottled 9/30/2015, forgot about it in my stash. Hazy golden yellow with a bit over a finger of off-white head. Aromas of citrus, tropical fruit, light floral, some malt and slightly aged hops. Tastes of citrus, floral notes, light citrus peel, a little stone fruit, light malt. Medium body with a dry finish. Juicy mouthfeel. Definitely better fresh but not bad given the age.

Very nice stuff. Fresh citrus and some potpourri. A hint of guava. Very drinkable. Pours golden with great head and lacing. Smooth finish with touch of bitterness, but pretty clean overall. Tap at Brookland pint.
