Kasteel Hoppy is a blonde speciality beer that fits perfectly into the wave of IPA beers (Indian Pale Ale). Thanks to the addition of herbs and the mildly malty character, the youngest member of the Kasteel range is not a ‘hop bomb’. Kasteel Hoppy is a full-bodied blonde beer predominated by the aromas of hops. However, the bitter taste does not dominate.

33 cl. bottle @ home, gift from Hilde but bought @ Hogerdijk, Culemborg. Golden with a big white head. Aroma is grainy with hints of hops. Taste is also less hoppy than expected, given the name. Nice and clean beer certainly but really nothing more than a quality pilsener.

33 cl. bottle picked up @ Willems. Shared with Sebletitje. Just released so much be reasonably fresh, like the label – fits in with the typical Kasteel design but the green & hop cone drawings really fit it well. Pours very clear, unnervingly clear and somewhat pale golden, foamy soapy head, egg-white – looks a bit too doctored with for me. Nose is like dishwashing liquid – the hops ??? did they dry-hop this with soap or something? – grains, light floral, pale malts, like a pale lager / Belgian pils,… Taste is grains, pils mal, lightly bitter metallic, lightly floral, some soap, light floral hops,… Light bodied. Like a Belgian pils / pale lager with a light touch of extra hops, mind, light & mild. Not really what I have in mind when I see something called hoppy. Utter disappointment for anyone coming in expecting something Duvel, De la Senne or De Ranke hoppy. This is clearly aimed @ Stella / Jupiler drinkers who might dig it but for me this totally crashes and burns,… might as well get a Jupiler which will at least deliver what I expect from it.

33cl bottle courtesy of and shared with 77ships.
