Aaron is our barleywine-style ale aged in bourbon barrels. Aaron A. Hill (1785 – 1869) was our great-great-great grandfather who operated the original tavern in North Greensboro. The Hill Farmstead Brewery logo is based upon that tavern’s original sign. In his honor, we crafted this barleywine, which has rested, unhurriedly and undisturbed, for over 2 years in bourbon barrels from some of our favorite distilleries, absorbing the essence of its surroundings and history.

Bottle thanks. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is wood, booze, oak. Medium mouth with nice sweet bourbon, wood, caramel, candy sugar, really enjoyed this one.

Bottle shared at the 9th Richmond Rare & Unusual Epic Tasting, Richmond, VA, 11/30/14. Hazy brown with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of toffee, bourbon, roasted malt and spice. The taste is toffee, caramel, raisin, whiskey, vanilla, dry lemon finish. Medium bodied, mild heat. Nice.

Thanks! Obtained in a trade. Heard about Ameicans drooling about this one, so this one is a nice one to try. 500 ml. (looks like 375 ml.) bottle split with Kraddel. Bottled on 04/2014. Pours black, little tanned head only on the sides. Nose is thick bourbon & surprisingly lots of liquorish, heavy on sugar & spice, cacao. Taste is lots of sugar, dark fruits, light herbal & quite a bit of liquorish, bourbon is more subdued than expected, vanilla, thick prunes, molasses, lots of brown sugar, thick herbal. Body is thick but not overly so, not boozy either. Completely different from what I expected. Lots of unique flavours for the style here, prune, liquorish, fig, herbal etc. This isn’t entirely what I prefer but I can respect this.

Bottle pours with a nice opaque burnt copper body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma is big yummy goodness. I get soft smooth kettle caramelization, brown sugar coated prunes and figs as well as slick soft bourbon and a flash of oak. The taste is similar as it’s seductive, rich, slick and soft with a bit of kettle caramelization and then bigger notes of nectar sweet malt drizzled marshmallow blended with thin ribbons of prune and fig like sweet fruity esters. Yum. Toward the finish soft smooth bourbon and supple and molasses sweetened oak come to the surface. Wow! This is bangin’ on all cylinders.

500 ml bottle purchased from HFS. Super dark maroon color, massive lace with great aroma. Massive amounts of dried fruit, raisins and very mellow but rich bourbon notes.
The flavor is a perfectly aged BBA barely wine. Brown sugar, sweet raisins, rich bourbon with vanilla. Mild oak tannins with a creamy texture over the tongue. Perfect amount of oxidation. No Alcohol flavor at all but still has a nice warming sip. Awesome thanks for the share Adam!!

Bottle generously shared by Seth. Dark brown pour with a kaki head. Big booze and caramel malt aromas. Big booze, caramel malts, and dark fruit highlights. Wow, this is fantastic. Mild oak and vanilla sub tones. Complex with a great body and mouthfeel. An incredible example of this style.....
