When introspection fails, it’s time to look outward for inspiration, perhaps Northward! One of the people who inspired me this past year is my friend Gabe Fletcher, of Anchorage Brewing Co. We brewed this biére together. I hope it inspires you. Northward!
Cheers & Mahalo plenty!

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/23/2014. Pours slightly hazy deep gold color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas with big tart grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, green apple, white wine, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, herbal, musty funk, clove, oak, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, spices, an wine barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, green apple, white wine, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, herbal, musty funk, clove, oak, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Good amount of yeast/peppercorn spiciness and light tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, green apple, white wine, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, herbal, clove, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, and spice flavors; with a great fruitiness/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly acidic mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent wild spiced saison. All around great complexity and balance of fruity/spicy/funky yeast, wine barrel, and spice flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle courtesy of GT2. Pours vibrant hazy orange with a frothy and rocky offwhite head that slowly dissipates while leaving some thick lacing on the glass. Smell is funky and fruity with wheat crackers, pink grapefruit juice, hay, barnyard, passion fruit, cape gooseberries, pineapple juice, grapefruit pith, dry soil, leather and lemon zest. Taste is bitter, very tiny sour, fruity and funky with wheat crackers, oatmeal flakes, heavy grapefruit juice, dry soil, hay, minerals, passion fruit, pineapple, star fruit, barnyard, leather, grapefruit pith and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is dry, slightly astringent, tiny tart and light to medium bodied. Finish is very tiny sour, bitter, funky and fruity with grapefruit juice, passion fruit, star fruit, dry soil, hay, pepper corns, grapefruit pith, barnyard and lemon zest. Funky grapefruit juice saison. I love it!

draft - Pinkish orange hazed hues. Citrus rice cake acidic nose. Smells like strawberry and grapefruit angel food cake. Sweet and bitter. Very effervescent. A mild bitterness at the finish. Mild cough drop taste lingering long after.

750ml bottle, labeled "Blend 3", at Partisan in Washington D.C. Capped bottle. A little pricey, but very happy to give this a try. Pours a mostly clear gold with some creamy, sticky white head. Nose is quite nice, pulpy citrus, straw, some white pepper, a little vegetal, some mild funk, wood pulp, white grape. Flavor is really well balanced, white grape, mild funk, grass, straw, wood pulp, pithy grapefruit, juicy too. Finish is the best part; the perfect level of acid as far as I am concerned, tart and refreshing without stripping your enamel away. Incredibly blended and if it wasn’t so damn expensive, I’d drink this all the time.

Spuyten Duyvil, Brooklyn tap ($9): Pours not very clear orange with a white head, leaves some minor lacing. Aroma is barnyard funk, hints of vinegar, some fruitiness, and a couple hop hints. Taste is that of a little sweet, sour saison. The sugar and the sour work well together, and they are backed up a little by a slight hoppiness. Body is on the slightly thicker side. Astringency aplenty. Nice aftertaste. Was a wonderful sipper.

Capped 750 from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours bright gold with a creamy/foamy white head. Aroma is slightly sour, slightly earthy, slightly fruity - but pretty much towards sweat sox. Med body I think. Flavor is earthy, fruity, definitely barnyard. Not exactly bretty - maybe a combo of several wild type things. Sort of a barnyard saison - not to be redundant, but imagine an intense saison. This finishes bitter barnyard. Incredibly excellent ale.

Pours slightly hazy golden yellow color with white head. Funky aroma with lemon, grapefruit, light oak, brett and earthiness. Similar flavors. Light to medium body with lively carbonation. Another tasty beer from JP.

Bottle thanks to Brian. Pours a cloudy yellow gold with small frothy white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong funk, oak, and brett. Medium mouthfeel with nice brett and yeast, lingering dry finish. Very good.
