XXIV. 24 years after Black Butte Porter’s debut, our potent, layered, imperial tribute returns. As usual, it’s a jazz riff, guided by the brewer’s muse and the lure of exotic ingredients. Artisanal dark chocolate nibs. Daglet dates. Mission figs. It may, possibly, hopefully, be the best edition yet. But, as it should be, you’ll be the judge of that.

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours jet black with tan head. Aromas are dark chocolate, dried fruits, rich and inviting. Taste is more dark chocolate and roasted bitterness and dark fruit sweet. Full bodied, creamy texture, long finish. Lovely stuff.

650ml bottle. Thanks Jesse!
Pours pitch black with a light brown head. Aroma of roastiness, dark ripe fruits and berries, chocolate, syrup, wood and vanilla. Taste is strong, roasty and sweetish with notes of dark chocolate, hints of syrup, wood and vanilla. Finish is smooth, heavy and complex with notes of wood, vanilla, syrup, dark chocolate, roastiness and cocoa. Well balanced, tasty and complex imperial porter. Great stuff.

Sampled from a 0.65l bottle @ Top Hops (BA) Bottle Share. A deep dark almost black one with a nice deep brown sidesticking top. Lots of deep dark caramel sweetness in the nose, some spiciness also. I get thick chocolate, cocoa and roasted malts. So nice. It's really smooth on the tongue this. A little bit of alcohol voice, dark malts with tarmac, dark fruits and roasted malts before I get hints of licorice and even a little bit of gunpowder in the finish and aftertaste. Yeah, this is just fantastic. 15.06.2013

Taster at Standard Market. Dang, I missed the fact that Standard was having a Deschutes tap takeover Monday, But I just happened to walk in and find this retired beauty on tap, which I got to side-by-side with the XXV. This one has a heady smell of cocoa and stewed figs. Looks solid black, but then you notice the faint brown highlights along the sides. Taste is dark and a bit grainy, but not highly roasted. Has a slight bourbon note, even though I believe this is not BBA. Carries a light fizz that makes it a great alcohol delivery system. Picks up a little more Kahlua note toward the end.

Bottle shared at Dean’s birthday tasting big thanks to Mrhangover. Pours near black with a small beige head. Aroma is surprisingly herbal up front, with nettles, toffee, roast, dark chocolate, coffee, rosemary. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter. Light full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours a clear near black with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of raisin with sweet dark grains and a bit of chocolate. Flavor has a good amount of raisin and sweet dark grains with a backing note of sweet chocolate.

Bottle, opened 7/19/13 four days before the ’best after’ date... oh well. Very dark brown pour with a creamy two fingers of tan head. Roast and chocolate in the nose, along with a little added sweetness that I suspect comes from the dates and figs. Given that I haven’t had a date or fig in several years, this fruity/beral spiciness must be their affect. It goes well with the dark cocoa and roasty notes... too well; it was very easy to power through my first glass. Overall very enjoyable.
