Great and long creamy head giving beautiful lacing on glass. Pours black. Aroma explodes with hops, firstly more herbal then citrus. Great notes of dark malts combine with herbs countered by nice mandarin like notes which make this bear very drinkable. Alcohol is well disguised. Palate is rich from herbs through dark malts, melanoidines and citrus hops. Almost perfect CDA. It’s the best Imperial Cascadian Dark Ale I have ever drunk!!! Kurdos to De Molen. Drunk from bottle, 4 months after bottling (date 19/12/13).

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 28 Feb 2014) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, chocolate, pine needles and hints of mint. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, dark chocolate, pine needles and a fairly dry finish with a generous piney bitterness. Almost full body, quite dry. Solid and well made black IPA. Very nice.

Bottle shared at Josh’s Farewell Hoorah - picked up from De Molen Shop, 20/02/14. Extremely dark mahogony brown with a moderate light tan covering. Nose is Germaline, earthy hops, tangy citrics, light soap, earthy cocoa, grapefruit tinge. Taste comprises bitter tropicals, dank hops, brown sugar, mineral bite, earthy cocoa. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, hop bitterness in the closure. Ok CDA.

33cl bottle, bottled on 13/05/13. Pours black with a thin, but lasting brown head. Roasted malty, fruity hoppy, mild sweetness in aroma, really really inviting. Taste has dryness, wood, hops, oranges, roasted malt. Hoppy, dry bitter finish. Balanced, wel-made BIPA. One of the better ones I have tried. Too bad it is a small bottle... edit: lower the points 0.1, gets quite ashy as it warms up.

Bottle shared in London at the Josh Farewell tasting. Thanks to C-Dog for this CDA. Pours clear, cola brown with a creamy tan head. Toasty bread in the nose, some pine and herbs, suggestions of dusty cocoa. Light-medium sweet flavor with more toasty bread, ripe citrus, orange, milk chocolate. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly resinous on the finish, more nicely toasted bread, a bit of earthy bitterness, orange rind, faint alcohol. Nice one.

Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours near black with a small tan head. The nose is rich roasted malt, toast, light smoke, earthy, faint citrus, incense cones and soap. The taste is rich roast, bitter pine, ash, raw bitterness, cocoa, burnt notes and soapy citrus with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. A bit raw, but alright.

Bottle from Yamaichi. Orange and citrus, chocolate and coffee nose, some licorice and spice, mostly orange chocolate. Shiny black with a bubbly head. Starts roasty, gets sweeter with chocolate, fruits, honey, all the time with citrus and grass hops. Rather spicy. Definitely root beer notes. Full and smooth, though light. Very good.
