This one is dedicated to everyone who has gotten up at the butt crack of dawn, headed towards the shores and found it 4-6 feet and offshore only to find 30 of your “buddies” have already claimed the peak. As you paddle out, a swell arrives from nowhere signaling your turn to go. The surf Gods are shinning on you today. You turn, stroke like mad for the wave. Standing up you are alone and blammo you Wipeout….blowing the only chance of a right hander all to yourself. You know who you are. We’ve all been there too. It’s inside each and every one of us. Welcome to the waters of Wipeout IPA, a massively hopped India Pale Ale with enough substance and body to overcome even the worst and most tragic of on the water spills. We brew Wipeout IPA for everyone- especially those hardy souls who brave the cold winter water and monster sets produced by an amazing northwest swell. Only a tidal wave of hops can overcome the surging tide of malt that is required to produce a beer of this shape. We invite you to drop in, hang on and kick out the backside. That is, unless you enjoy wiping out and all the glory that goes with it.

Port Brewing Wipeout IPA 7% Bomber from Yamaoka. 1400¥ and a glowing gold color with a thick head that doesn’t linger but a great fruity aroma. Medium bodied with a somewhat round carbonation. Starts fruity, gets bitter and woodsy then a touch of cream soda but the finish even gives you glimpses of the malt base as well. Not as impressive as Mongo from Port Brewing but it is solid and ticks all the boxes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From Sept 2008

This beer pours a hazy orange gold. There's about an inch of foam and the lacing is very good.

The smell has big notes of citrus hops with some tropical fruit and some sweet malt floating in the background.

The taste is also very hoppy, at least at first. Good notes of mango and grapefruit up front...bitter but not overdone. Then some caramel malt sweetness moves in and there's definitely some balance here now. Nice! The more sips I take, the more I notice the balance and man, that works for me.

Mouthfeel is on the low side of medium and the carbonation is lightish but lively enough, for me, to keep the flavours "dancing" on my palate. It finishes with a caramel malt/earthy malt sweetness *and* citrus bitterness. In other words, the finish is also nicely balanced. I like!!

Head retention is good and lacing is also good.

Bottom line: I think Port Brewing did a fine job with this American IPA. Very tasty and quite the drinkable brew.

Bottle. Orange colour, cloudy, nice rocky head, poor lacing. Aroma is lots of tropical fruit, with tangerine, mango, lichee. Fortunately no spruce or grapefruit. Medium bitterness, short and not aggressive, light sweetness.Soft carbonation. I don't like IPAs, but I enjoyed this one.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 12/14/2017. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy medium golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with fatnastic retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light honey, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/pine hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light honey, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus rind, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, lightly toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, bready/grainy, and sticky/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an incredible IPA. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink; despite the aggressively bitter/drying finish. Absolutely spot on classic tasting West Coast Amarillo/C hopped IPA. Very vibrant and dank hops, with just enough pale malt to balance the resinous finish. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bomber from Uncle Babe’s shared with Craftmember, Trevor and Ster at Gentse Feesten. Snow white, stable, tightly lacing head, ’old gold’ colour with warm amberish tinge. Aroma of pine resin, grapefruit zest, wormwood, pink pepper, lightly toasted bread, orange peel, toasted onion - classic West Coast IPA profile. ’Dried’ fruitiness in the onset with notes of dried mango and unripe banana, grapefruity hop notes subtly apparent from the start, medium carbonation, supple and bit oily mouthfeel; biscuity, lightly toasty maltiness, matching well with a firm hop finish, resiny and piney, long and bitter with pleasant cedar oil, grapefruit peel and orangey notes, spicy ending. Nothing out of the ordinary here - and this bottle was probably a bit past its prime to begin with - but in any case a very enjoyable, correct and more than decent offering if you like your IPAs classically West Coast in profile.
