Creamy head smooth carbonation complements its deep mahogany color. Bouquet teems with chocolate, apple and clove. Roasted malts intertwine with the Tettnanger hops to create a depth of complex flavors. Smooth roasted malts and dark caramel leads to clean finish - unlike any other dark beer.

Sampled on draft at Zeno’s in State College PA this beer poured a very dark brown color with a very small beige head that faded quickly. The aroma was lightly woody and roasty with a root beer presence. The flavor was dryish, woody and nutty with light banana, clove and roasty malts. The finish was long, woody and roasty with some banana and clove. Moderately full bodied. Eh.

Let this one warm a bit. Deep brown with lacing head. Aroma is massive sweet malt caramel and light clove. Flavor is also sweet caramel with a good wheat character and hints of molasses well as a banana aftertaste in the finish, balances the initial sweet impression. A touch of apple as well. Mildly spicy and clovey, just a hint of clove with a dry and refreshing finish that is medium in duration. A nice Dunkleweizen

Bottle from Half Time. Pours dark amber with a slight tan head. Aroma has chocolate, fruit and spice. Med body, mild carb. Flavor is almost smokey chocolate with hints of banana. "Unlike any other dark beer" - likely correct.

Hazy deep brown coloured body - thick and heavy with no head at all. Aroma of wheat, brown sugar and light nutmeg spice. Medium-bodied; Sharp roasted malt flavoured body with a mild spice flavour and very little else. Aftertaste shows malt and some spices, not much else. Overall, an alright dunkel - definitely not a ’classic wheat’ by any sense of the word, but a good beer to try, regardless of that. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from K&E Discount Beverage in New Paltz, New York on 25-March-2006.

12 oz bottle courtesy of Thaichile. Best before October on the notch. Pour is hazed brown and ruby, with a cola tan head of about an inch. Carbonation bubbles are present and crackling. Some nice lace. Aroma of roasted wheat, some fruit sweetness. Can’t quite identify type of sweetness, peach maybe. Taste features the toasty wheat, the sugar sweetness and a very roasted finish. The sweetness in the taste is more of a sugary black cherry - more like a soda than the natural fruit, as there is only slight detectable tartness. Tartness / sourness picks up as it warms. Palate is medium-thin, slick and quite carbonated. Easy drinking, and interesting beer. Thanks for this one Mark.

Growler (actually a plastic yeast jug) from the brewery. Ripe banana, clove and chocolate malt aroma. Hazy dark brown with nice big head. Ripe banana, clove and chocolate malt flavor. Very nice body - just a tad on the light side. A spectacular dunkelweizen. Truly nailed the style.

2004 bottle from Maibockaddict, thanks again! Finally I get to try a god-damned beer from High Point. I’ve had my eyes on the Winter Wheat ever since I started rating 3 years ago. I decided to start with the classic, and it definitely didnt disappoint. Fantastic pour, and it’s very encouraging to see plenty of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Caramel-brown-yellow body, with some deep orange and tan hues, quite muddy looking with a large light tan head. Huge malted wheat aroma, with spicy esters, lightly spicy tettnang hops and plenty of light coffee and roast. Flavor begins with light chocolate, licorice and light coffee. Peppery, natural carbonation seems a problem at first, but giving the beer time to breath eliminates this. Butterscotch (not diacetyl, but a good butterscotch flavor), caramel corn and wheat, with a light trace of hops on the finish. Medium body, slightly watery, yet it dosent hurt the flavor and makes it that much more drinkable. I think I drank this beer in under 2 minutes. A touch of astringency from the roast and wheat could be my only real complaints.

Bottle Pours a very dark mahogany, with almost no head or lacing. Aroma is slightly fruity, dark malt and wheat. Flavors are dark roast, woody, and a hint of some spice and carmel. A rich full flavor and smooth slightly heavy feel. Trailer is a \bit smokey and lacks any real hopy bitterness.
